The hidden motivation of the question i posed.. was a way of gauging (Dare i say it) ones politically correct stance
having now revealed my motivation behind the question... your response equated to a person who is somewhat persuaded by political correctness and the culture of the moment
ie.. Hunting could be seen in a bad light from the general community.... sounds bad doesnt it?

Hunting is just what it is.... whether its for sport, entertainment or food, we can justify ourselves.. why!? becos it is everyones right to do so

When i mentioned knock the mouse over the head... i would eventually carry it outside-not becos im a animal lover.. but becos i dont want a stinky mouse in my home
The importance of ridding uninvited stinky guests out of my house should help one understand the need for security.. and why we have walls!! :D

Me persuaded by political correctness? Thats a first...Im one the most politically incorrect people I know.

And the hunting is fer a mix of sport and money...ye wouldnt believe how much green ye can make if ye know whos buying. The dogs dont actually hunt, they retrieve and their senses keep me warned of anyone else around at 3 in the morning...they can sniff a gamekeeper at 500 paces basically.

Best way to keep mice out of yer home is to put a couple dead mine under yer floorboards and let them rot...it creates the smell of death that they will avoid and they will still come into a house with cats and dogs...but they wont if they smell death ^

No it's not.

People are very good at compartmentalising things. How people treat nature doesn't reflect on their political bias at all.

How the person would treat the 'mouse' (you do mean rat, right?) is how much of a perceived threat it is, given the situation etc. That's nothing to do with politics.

Yeah, exactly. In seriousness, it's horrible feeling like that, especially in England. The spiders that do bite here, only a couple cause pain, and that rarely happens. It's psychological, but for some people it's not easy to get your head around it. I have a friend that keeps spiders and offers me help. My skin crawls at the thought, though. I'm not the only one, it's quite common.

Why is this? Why do I feel terror and dread when I see a house spider? I've swam with Sharks, I've fought full contact in the ring, so why spiders? Maybe someone can help me about this.

Yeah... Phobias, I know that small doses and building up seems to work- they even use vr to help this way.
My dad was a tree surgeon, I used to suffer vertigo, but going up trees to the limit of comfort and repeat helped.
Try your friends spider! Get him to show you just one, so as not to overwhelm!
Good luck

Yeah, this is something people without a phobia struggle to grasp. After all the key word in the description is "unreasonable". Nobody has bear phobias. It's just fear. :D
I tried to "work" on my phobias. But it's... hard. You can be intelligent person who understands the risks (or lack thereof) but in reality you just panic. Part of your brain shuts off and your body refuses to work properly. I really admire people who had arachnophobia and now have tarantulas as pets.
I was never able to REALLY overcome it. Reasonable exposure in small doses dulls the senses, so to speak, I am, for example, able to hold a spider or a small rodent in my hand. But only just. I can feel in the back of my head that a smallest thing like an unexpected movement or even a sound from somewhere and I'm jumping out of the window.

I hate it. I don't want to be vulnerable. But there's hardly anything I can do.

Are you the type of individual who will shriek at the site of a mouse?? or would you find a make-shift weapon.. and clobber the mouse over the head!!??
or perhaps you're a animal lover and pick up the mouse and carry it.. out the door?

I'd find a mouse cute.
