Mandalay search-lights begone PeTiTiOn

Since we didn't have a nice and juicy petition for a while, I thought this is a good opportunity!
So grab your torches and pitchforks and off we go!

Or maybe I'll just voice my complaint in a forum post so it's been seen and done. :D

I gotta say, I do feel a little more entitled than usual, since this ship was not free stuff, but actually purchased with hard cash.

The Mandalay is the best exploration ship I ever flew, but those search lights are absolutely atrocious.

They ruin any on-ground screenshots, they often look like a glitch, especially at daylight, and in my book, they often don't even look like lights, but like strange white circles painted on the ground (I never use the ship's main light because it's the same kind of "light" they emit).
I get the idea somehow. Not that I'd need lights beneath my ship, even if they would actually do their job, but I get that it might be a cool feature for some.

Now, if I could just switch them off.

I'd love to either have an extra keybind to do that, or the search lights connected to the ship's main light.
If I want light, I push the button, if I want it dark it really has to stay dark.

Here's a few shots to illustrate the issue and make this post a little bigger and placative.

This is at daylight:

This could be a great shot, alas:

NO! The ship has to have a downside, this is it! :ROFLMAO:
It has quite a few imo...all quality of life kind of things with regarding the cockpit and mainly when playing in VR. ie,
1. the side holo panels that pop up are too close and too far behind you. You have to look right over your shoulder to see the entire panel, which actually strains your neck. Other ships you simply look left or right and you can see everything on the panel with ease.
2. The "keyboard holder" to the left of the seat clips the bottom of the left targeting holo panel, which really angers my OCD as I want to reach out and move it a few inches.
3. The front holo panels to the left and right of the scanner are angled to point at the rear seat and not the pilot.
4. The glass floor window is cool, but not very functional as it's too small.

I have zero quarms with the spec, modules, flight dynamics etc of the Mandalay.

I was going to tell you to suffer with your cosmetic flaws on your OP ship, but I know the pain of OCD all too well. Fix this FDev!

IMO it's also common sense. Bad design annoys the heck out of me.
The looking over the shoulder at the side panels is more a physical discomfort than OCD.
...the only thing that triggers my OCD is the holo panels focused and aligned to point at the rear seat instead of the pilot and the weird keyboard stand to the left that only just gets in the way of the holo targeting panel. It's like an itch you can't reach to scratch.
In RL if something is covering part of your monitor or your monitor is not pointing at you then you just reach out and move it.

Love Mandalay, but a few things are just a compound annoyance:

  • Lower engine loudness by about 25% and boost loudness by 30-50%. The sound is very good, but it is so loud that it makes it hard to enjoy it without lowering volume for ALL effects.
  • Make landing lights a part of main ship lights, so they can be turned on/off when needed.
  • Remove jagged text from the canopy.
  • Remove ZP logo from a bottom window.

Having had a proper go of the Mandalay in VR last night, I'm absolutely loving the wide open view. I did notice that the side panels were in a different location but it didn't bother me. I may have noticed the keyboard subconsciously, I will look again tonight. But overall, it's become my favorite ship in the game, the actual cockpit is really well done IMO, and I like that it's a bit different.. However, I would agree that the spotlights should be switched on/off with the main lights. o7

i agree with the OP the lights are really annoying when landing dayside, i dont know if anyone else has noticed but when you are dayside and you have ship or srv lights on elite does this thing where it actually makes everything darker on your screen. which is annoying if your on the dawn/dusk area of a planet and you can actually see better with lights turned off.. alas you cant do that with the searchlights so everything looks darker than it actually is when your standing near your lovely new ship

I am not finding the engine noise too loud but that might be down to my audio options as I run in Night Time mode.

This seams a good idea, though I haven’t yet landed it anywhere other than a station yet.
