Newcomer / Intro Manual Plotting of a Long Jump Route?

I was wondering if it is possible to manually select the various points on a jump route?

As a subsidiary question does the automatic plotter allow for the fact that jump range should increase as fuel load goes down?

As far as setting custom waypoints on the galaxy map, no...or not yet, anyway

Back in the early days we had to plot our next jump after every jump, no routing tool.

It was actually kinda romantic, it definitely made interstellar travel feel a lot bigger and mysterious. though, there were some online tools to help https://cmdr.club/ for eample.

I wish we could manually select jump points. I'm getting closer to the galactic center where the star field is becoming more dense. Sometimes the route planner takes a long time to configure a route. Once I make it to the core I may have to take one jump at a time.

I was wondering this myself. It would be nice being able to change some of the points, especially when it's a long distance and you want to make sure you can scoop fuel along the way.

I'm about ready to make my first expedition. How can you limit the route finder to only scoopable stars?

I don't think you can. You can filter out the stars that display, but not the stars that'll be used for plotting routes.

Generally though, the density of unscoopable stars goes way up when a bit below the Galactic plane (0 on the y axis), if you can avoid that you shouldn't run into enough unscoopables to create a problem.

Yes it would be nice if it worked like directions in Google maps where you can drag part of the route and it snaps in place.

At the moment, that is limited to economic route. The down side is that planning method goes from one scoopable to the next nearest, resulting in a 1,000 or so ly plot with literally hundreds of jumps in the core.

What I normally do is plot a route to destination, then filter the galaxy map with only scoopable stars. I'll visually watch my fuel guage and if I'm starting to run low, I'll check if the next jump is scoopable. If not, I divert to a nearby scoopable instead. Sort of like pulling off the highway to get gas. I then replot my destination from there. It's a little easier now with bookmarks as I can just bookmark my destination and quickly replot, instead of having to search for it.

ATM , I'm "in" at about 3500LY from the bubble going straight to the core. What I do is just scoop at every star I can and maintaining a full tank. In this way when I encounter 2 or 3 systems without a scoopable star I have no problem. I'm in a Lakon type 6 atm. And haven't had any problems until now.

I haven't tried it myself, but I think some people have found out a way to do this with bookmarking. I have plans on testing it out, later.
It might work, but it doesn't exactly make it effortless, since you have to select the bookmarks and plot next jump (or route to next bookmark).

I think it can be useful and interesting when I go out on my next exploration.

Yeah, you're right, I read about that later on another page. Seems like route plotting sometimes also uses non-scopable stars if necessary. So always check the route manually - but still quite useful filter I think.

Good god. To run out of fuel even without route plotting to obafgkm, you have to be:
1. In an ship unsuitable for exploration
2. Lazy, rubbish, stupid
3. Out on the extreme outer rim at the limit of your jump range

Or a combination of the above.

The odd system (or 4) that isn't scoopable should pose a threat to absolutely noone.
