I don't know much about Maori culture, much less names. Would it be similar to Hawaiian names and culture? I'm genuinely asking, since I'm not that good with history and culture in general, except an amateur interest in Mesoamerican civilization
Very similar! The Māori and Hawaiian languages especially, I'd go so far as to say they are essentially different dialects of the
same language. I'd also lump in the Rarotongan Māori, Tahitian and Moriori languages into this group. Even though I'm Māori I can't speak Te Reo (the language) fluently, but I know that people who can speak Māori and Hawaiian fluently can have conversations with each other, each speaking their respective languages.
Hawaiian also still shows up in my DNA, I've taken a DNA test, which is very cool! So even genetically we're both still very closely connected.
