Game Discussions Marathon (FPS by Bungie)

Liked the second story type vid and it looks interesting. I played the original Marathon back in the 90's so I get the lore and all that. This one however...no PvE story mode content makes it unlikely that I'll play it. I don't think Bungie trying to jump back on the looter/shooter train is a good thing, there's way too many alternatives, most of which have died off already.

I wish them well with it but I have a suspicion they've dropped the ball trying to shoehorn this into a very niche genre alongside the likes of Tarkov 🤷‍♂️

Sadly "multiplayer extraction shooter with a focus on (team) PVP" neatly covers a large percentage of the reasons that I'll avoid a game. I'd much rather have a narrative driven single player game to pootle around in, with ED being my only exception.

It looks as pretty as they all do, but it's not for me ta.

I remember playing the original in my junior-high computer lab; was one of my first LAN gaming experiences. Still unclear as to how, or even if, the new game ties into the originals, beyond the name.

Don't have anything against extraction shooters, in principle, but I feel that modern multiplayer shooters have been ruined by stat tracking, unlocks, microtransactions, and an over reliance on voice comms.

Report: Marathon Delay Likely as Sony Cancels All Paid Marketing Plans. Colin Moriarty said in a (paywalled) episode of the Sacred Symbols+ podcast: " “I was told by someone familiar with marketing plans in a key overseas market that there are now no plans to do paid marketing for Marathon at all,” Moriarty said during the podcast. “I don’t know if those plans were affected by what has recently happened or if that was always the plan or whatever. But it is considered a fairly unusual move for a game of this high profile.”

Shouldn’t it be called Snickers now? ;)
I remember being posted to Berlin in the mid 70's when that Marathon/Snickers thing had me mightily confused for a bit. We used to have the UK named Marathon bars in the NAAFI shop in camp and the main store in Theodor Heus Platz whereas in the German sweet shops, they were all Snickers.

Can't remember when Marathon bars became known as Snickers officially in the UK, it used to just be a Europe/UK naming thing before Mars marketing decided on a common name. :D
