I'll be landing in TIR soon and while there I figure I might as well unlock Marsha by meeting her requirements, mine 10 units of osmium.
So thinking of buying a ship to transform into a mining ship and mine for the first time ever but have no clue going about it and will look it up.
Question though...can I mine this stuff around that neighborhood? What is a good enough ship for that?

Might take a couple of trips, but sure. All systems have pristine resources, so it shouldn't take too long to collect if you set everything else to ignore.

In practice you'd hate yourself for doing it.

You could do it in an Adder easy though.

Yes.
Mining laser, Size 1 shields, Size 1 Rafinery, size 1 collector limpet and 10T cargo space is all you need.

They have it in the rings directly outside Jaques station. I think it took me about 10 minutes to get it with a simple laser mining Python that I bought and fitted out at Jaques. It's still there.

Or just buy the osmium at one of the carriers selling it. As long as someone mined it, Marsha doesn't care who did it.

Don't think I could buy and turn it in to unlock her. Pretty sure it doesn't work that way but could be wrong.

Well, thats how I did it on an alt account.
Its works for the escape pods Etienne wants as well.

Just one other quick note, since it does sometimes confuse people new to mining: there's no such thing as an Osmium hotspot - just pick any old spot on a metallic ring and look around, you'll find plenty.

If you take a 1A prospector limpet controller with you, that will:

• tell you what the asteroids you shoot with it contain so you can skip the non-Osmium ones
• increase the yield per rock, so you should only need to find 3 Osmium-containing rocks to get your ten tonnes

Something like this is probably the smallest you can do it, if you're comfortable flying unshielded (the rocks are slow enough you can dodge them, but you might attract pirates on your way over to the engineer)

Alright, parked at Jaques and will start gathering all this crap including a ship.
This will be a change for me and give me some experience. I believe there is another engineer that requires mining to be done around the bubble also if memory serves me right.

So think I will get either the Cobra MkIV or the DBX. Never had a DBX so kind of leaning towards that unless someone thinks it is unwise.
Have my shopping list ready, so lets give it a go.

This is turning into a disappointment so far, not finding any Osmium, even went to a carrier that supossingly had some according to Inara.
Maybe I am doing something wrong, I don't know. It is kind of interesting this mining thing though.
If I keep lucking out trying to mine it then will jump back in my Python and go find a place that really has it.
