Mass Effect 4

Now it's fully launched and I've had a good while to play the full game, i have to say I'm really enjoying it. It's a very different animal to the previous games, the story and tone is a lot less serious, combat is also a lot better than previous games.

I'm playing as the default female Ryder, but I'm essentially playing it as Captain Kirk, cocky, a little arrogant and flirting with everything that moves..

I'll wait for another patch or two and then pick it up. Apart from bugs, I imagine that many of the complaints are due to unrealistic expectations and I want to have played it before ME 5 comes out (assuming that will be a glorious return to form). Judging from a few online videos, my main problem would be the cringe-worthy clichéd dialogue. I guess we should appreciate that Elite doesn't have speaking NPCs. :)

The trilogy had its share of problems, too. :)
It did, but there was always something different and only the main story line was mandatory if you wanted to finish the game. The missions, while a derivative of a cover based shooter, were wide ranging with various environmental settings from small to expansive. The Mako even played a role in that in ME1. It never felt repetitive to me. The different planets were well done. Architecture differed from planet to planet and while it was a corridor shooter I never felt penned in. There were also tons of side-quests.

So just mirroring your own personality with no role play then...

:D

I'm really enjoying the game. Yes, the animations aren't the best, but they get the job done, and the story and combat is good. There's a lot to do, too. Overall, I think it's very worth playing.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
One thing that is bugging me is that there are simply too many quests coming at you all the time. It's overwhelming! It's great to have so many things to do, but it can feel unfocused sometimes. I think I just need to do what I want and not worry about 'clearing the level' before moving on. :)

Dont know what the fuss is about. I played it for a couple of hours last night. Right up till I got the new ship, and it was fine. The animations are ok, sure theres some funny mouths etc, but I am old enough to remember 8bit games. I enjoyed it.

I've not played any of these games before. It's good though having a first contact situation of meet a couple of bipedal aliens and shooting them is a little disappointing (that's as far as I got). Though I suppose the blue alien on the ship was the first one I met!

Too much Dragon Age Inquisition influence, alot of it is just reskins of the exact same mechanics such as AVP perks, forward camps, material gathering. It's an ok game, but it has failed to grab me the way the trilogy did.

Been to a couple of planets so far and if you liked DA:I, you'll probably like this as well.

The main story and significant side quests are all straight up Mass Effect. However it's this open world as you say "single player mmo" thing that's been tacked on does annoy me somewhat. I'm very early in the game maybe 6 hours and it's irritating me already. I'm not a fan of open world but it CAN be done well as Witcher 3 more than shows for instance. In this it does feel like an afterthought, almost like some low level management git decided that it should be in there somewhere.

But like I say the main story etc is all decent enough. The combat is OK I suppose I felt it was marginally better in previous games for my tastes. But it's ok, I'm told it gets a lot better once you really start unlocking some powers.

It's definitely got its hooks in me though despite the criticism I've given. Weirdly enough.

2 days later and now I'm completely hooked. :) I'm finding it to be very enjoyable, with lots to do and tons of options. I like the story, and the combat. I'm completely used to the faces, they really aren't as bad as the intertubes is saying.

And I can see it is going to be a lot of hours to complete, which is awesome.

I think you mean single-player RPG.
No, I mean specifically MMO gameplay just without other players, because MMOs is what current "EA BioWare" did until now. MMO gameplay is pretty different from single player RPGs like the Legend of Grimrock series for example.

It does not feel so obviously "SP MMO-ish" like Dragon Age Inquisition lucky - the open world exploration and getting resources is much better here. To be honest the most fun I have is in combat and exploring with Nomad coz as I mentioned I cant get in to the story or those goofy characters at all. Its not a terrible game, but its no way ME quality.

I think you mean single-player RPG. And, yes, it is. The first Dragon Age was fine, the second was not - I've not seen the latest one (I think Inquisition is the third in the series?).

It is indeed inquisition....

.... and you'll feel like been through one if you play it. It's not as bad 2 though.

YES This is kind of what I EXPECTED. This is more like playing ME 1 again. Plenty of missions, ad lib with diff chrs. Lots of lore and rpg aspects with a little ME 1,2,3 and other game adds thrown in. Yes the voice acting and writing is sub par to the trilogy, but then again, how may years went in to that trilogy and this is a one shot game AFAIK. I give this game a " HELL YES" Prolly need to go check on my python. :)

I've gone through some of the content, gotten to the 3rd planet (I think) and so far I would rate it a solid 8/10. Performance isn't fantastic, Its not that I have bad performance all my settings are on high 1080p and it runs at 60+fps pretty consistently, but every so often it just completely freezes for a few seconds. Which is odd.

The UI is bloody attrocious though.

So it's another single player MMO?

No, its not really like Inquisition. Its more RPG than MMO, you're not doing arbitrary bear bum collect-athons.
