Mastering Incursion

So after giving it a few solid hrs chasing the 3rd wave ship in incursion I have still to take down his shields.... Iv watched videos and everyone makes it look so easy to aim at him, for me he spins around like crazy. Plus I realize im having a super hard time to just keep my cross hair on him, I keep over or under shooting.

I purchased a thrustmaster T.16000 just for this game because I tried keyboard and mouse and instantly thought that this game is impossible with it. But later on I saw a video online of a guy getting to the 10th wave with K+M.... That crushed me.

I can keep right on his back but getting shots on him I am finding to be impossible, I even gave myself a tiny dead zone on my roll and yaw just so im not so twitchy with it. I cant imagine what else in the setting I can do to give me a hand. Is it all just my aiming and thats it?

Let's start with the most simple thing, i.e. check that you have pitch/roll/yaw axes bound to the joystick axes, and not pitch up/down, roll/yaw left/right.

I was the same in beta, completed most of the training goals, but not all of them, which bugged me for a while, I wanted to feel like I could do them all.

Then I saw the videos too like you, couldn't understand what I was doing wrong.

But after I started playing, it all became academic. I probably still can't complete incursion, and I use a thrustmaster joystick myself, but it doesn't really matter, I am pretty good at the game anyway. Don't sweat it is my advice, have a good go at them then move on.

Those missions are probably harder than the majority of the experiences you will probably encounter in the real game. Struggling with the tutorial missions wont make you bad at the game.

Keep practicing ! This scenario is actually a good way to become a better combat pilot, and is without a doubt one of the biggest PVE challenges in the game (SSS being another). I ran it over and over when I was tweaking my control setup for combat and I learnt a lot from it. Never managed to beat the 10th wave though. But I frankly think that the number of pilots who can achieve this with a C-graded Sidey is ridiculously small.

As for controls, I personally use Ultimate Joystick Remapper to fine tune my various peripherals rather than the in-game options. The ability to set my deadzones precisely and to have a sensitivity curve set for each individual axis is invaluable. But really the only way to really stop overshooting is practice. This said, the T16000 is quite sensitive (though very precise). So I'd still recommend you to use UJR or a similar software to set its sensitivity to something you like more and then keep flying until you get better (and have fun along the way, that's by far what's the most important).

When I was setting my controls for my TM 16000, I have switched yaw and roll axis by accident. And I thought "Wait a minute, somehow this is great...."
So the logical way (from my perspective) is to have roll on x-axis and yaw on the z-axis like a traditional airplane setup. Try to change doing a roll on the sticks twisting axis and yaw on the x-axis, much better for this game if you ask me.

I had the same issue with the Thirteenth Axeman. Once I started playing though, I realized the tutorials are much more difficult than the actual game.

As far as sensitivity goes, I still find the same thing with my Thrustmaster X-HOTAS setup, not precise enough with tiny movements, and moves too far with larger movements. It might just be the difference between a cheap and expensive joystick I suppose... Wish there was a joystick sensitivity setting.

I usually get knocked out in the 7th (or 8th?) wave with the three sidewinders. Up to that point the mission is fairly straightforward, but in this wave you have to somehow separate the three opponents so you can kill one without the others shooting you down at the same time.

Keep at it. Practice and knowing your controls will help you get through more and more of this.
