Material and synthesizing? WHAT?

I used it once when I forgot limpets. Spent my 10 nickel and 10 iron and got 4 limpets. Saved me a trip, but it's too costly (time-wise) for normal usage.

Yeah yeah. And 80 tons of life support can provide the only crew member on a 2000 ton cutter with 25 minutes of oxygen. Any more questions?

10nickel and 10 iron make a limpet. Surely, as a technical device it's amazing how these two materials can generate an entire programmable limpet.
Even more interresting, with a total of 100 materials each, I can make 10 limpets, each limpet needs 1 cargo space, that means alone the nickel and iron material collection has an equivalent of a crago rack 10 so basically a c3+ cargo rack.

And ammo? wow, lets not think about how a superlow amount of material refills a whole wepaons ammo, considering we have weapons weighting up to 16 tons. The amount of ammo weight must be near 0 considering we can make a LOAD of ammo out of those non storage requiring material. And this means engineers of those wepaons must have bee very stingy when mading ammo storage for these guns since the guns true ammo storage amount is quite low in comparison to the total weight of said gun.

And the best? 2 iron and a nickel refill my Life support? What king of creature am I? I see now why it's called "holo me" in the virtual reality we aren't even humans and just holograph a human appearance above our strange Lifeform. I mena honestly, when life support goes low, we either freeze or suffocate, but how is iron and nickel actually generating breathable air or warmth?
Ok for just the chips that go into a portion of your limpet hardware or a fighter. Please provide the following.

Silicon
Boron
Phosphorous
Arsenic
Nitrogen
Carbon
Tungsten
Titanium
Copper
Aluminum
Argon
Chlorine

Sounds like a great immersion enhancer! Let’s keep it real!

Imagine having a high tech 3D printer on your ship you just need to feed some missing components to create stuff for you. Something like that, to save your immersion...

*Sandy sees the thread*

Following feedback about material storage, we have decided to reduce the storage for iron and nickel to 20 units each in 3.0.4 thereby preserving the immersive and realistic game experience.

:D

why not? if materials wouldn't crap as crapyp as they do ingame that wouldn't be a problem. But we currently only find "pure" minerasl for soem reaosn.

take aluminium for example, in nauture it's mostly together with: Cu, Zn, Sn, Pb, Cd, Fe, Sb
So yep if we had more normal resoruc esites where to get them we woudl simply have a lot more materials. But FD made them pure rare spread across the galaxy. thats why obtianign them is an unrealistical pain and thats why synthesizing is doen by unrelaistical compositions.

Well there is a mining update being worked on. Maybe some of the naturally occurring ores and minerals will be able to break down. Although adding anymore to recipes will produce a lot of salt...

NaCl to be used in further engineering.

Limpets should be ammo. 'Nuff said. :p

I would rather they be reusable hardware instead of disposable Dixie Cups. Instead of having to carry a couple dozen of these things for salvage or USS farming and tying up all that cargo space, imagine how much more realistic and space saving it would be if we just loaded up less than a half dozen reusable limpets? 2-3 in deployment racks and another 2-3 stowed away as emergency backups.

When they are done gathering the salvage, mats or whatever, instead of blowing up or just sitting there waiting to be discarded on jump... They return to the ship, dock with the cargo hatch system and stow themselves back into their "Limpet Racks" for the next deployment.

Eventually they will need to be refueled, and later repaired/refurbished or replaced, but a system like this would be far more realistic, and not feel so incredibly wasteful. I know its just a game, but I have always had a problem with the way Limpets are dealt with in the current scheme of things.

A system like I am suggesting would also allow ships with little cargo capacity to have the same materials salvage gathering capabilities as ships with a lot of cargo capacity.

So, to sum this up: something that makes sense, saves your time and is equally useful for a newbie and three-year-experience veteran?
I love it!

... and not a chance :D This game's theme is illogical, time-wasting and pointless ;)

Well... There are plans to totally revamp the entire Limpet system in the game. I assume that when the time comes for that, they will open it up to discussion like they did with C&P and all the other stuff. If and when that happens, I plan to submit the above proposal for consideration and maybe... Just maybe... FDEV might actually like the idea and give us reusable limpets! :)

We shall see.

I demand that FD nerf this immediately.

Limpets can be sold for real cash credits.
This obviously makes materials gathering a credit exploit through the Raw Mats Broker

Remove all materials before the game implodes!!

Something related that I was wondering about...

The doodad says that 10 iron and 10 nickel create 1 "reload" for the Collectors on my ship.
On my scavenger-AspX (with 2 x C3 Collectors), that's 4 limpets.

If I was to synthesise a "reload" for the Collectors on my mining T9, would that generate 16 limpets?

Cos, if it's generating different numbers of limpets for the same amount of mat's, that's kinda halfassed.

20 units (tons) of materials to manufacture 1 limpet reload. Tell me how ED has not become just a massive time/money sink?
