materials getting destroyed if you drive them over?

Not possible if they are close together. You can only aim at one. So is this called a feature or a bug?
In both cases it is frustrating.
You can use the contacts panel to target them if you can't do it from the turret or the main view.

Well general opinion is that them launching the SVR into the sky is probably a bug.

I do it always this way though you still destroy materials if they are close together.

Incorrect, it just takes more care. I picked up two materials that were less than half a meter apart last night.

I'm never in a hurry though. My attitude is along the lines of "I want it all, and I don't care how long it takes".

it is correct, if you have two Antimon in front of you which are milimeters close together and target one you will destroy the second.

The materials aren't actually destroyed when you drive over them. This is actually a collider interpenetration issue, where the physics engine fails, the materials are pressed inside the ground's hitbox, and then since they have almost zero mass, launched skyward at relativistic velocities. If you pay careful attention, you can sometimes see the materials flying up for a split second, especially when playing on higher frames per second.

This is why it sometimes flips your SRV or launches you into the sky; the materials hit you, are instantly destroyed by the collision, but impart some of their velocity to you.

What they really need to do is write new physics code for materials, which explains why they haven't bothered, even though it's an insanely immersion-breaking and sometimes even game-breaking bug.

Well it was not always this way. There was a time where you can drive over them, roll backwards and forward without destroying any material.

It may be correct for you, but it's not correct overall. Using the method aRJay described, I've never destroyed a material.

Are you picking up materials with Drive Assist on? If so, that will make it extremely frustrating. DA is only useful to stop forward motion. Beyond that, I never use it.
