MattG's Observatory plugins

I can't find these in Canonn Bioforge so perhaps it wasn't reported there.

Are bio entries lost in EDDN, or is it just that individual databases decide that Genus is all that matters?
That's a good question
Where does Canonn actually get the data from?
At the moment I am only uploading the log files to EDSM

For the most part

That'll do it. EDSM is ok for a cursory glance at a system but the data it collects is far inferior to the likes of spansh who gathers data sent over EDDN. Canonn also source from EDDN (they also have their own plugin too which I believe works outside EDDN and enhances the data they receive).
Unless there's a specific reason not to, I'd recommend sending to both EDSM and EDDN.

BoxelStats

New version of BoxelStats is here.
Before installing, you should delete ObservatoryBoxelStats.dll and ObservatoryBodyCount.dll from your plugins folder. The new one is just called BoxelStats.dll so it won't replace the old one, and wouldn't be able to remove BodyCount anyway. (It won't break if you don't delete them, but it'll be weird when you have 2 BoxelStats tabs)

New interface looks like this:
GAIImAj.png

When you first run Observatory after installing, it'll tell you to do a Read All. Let this complete before doing any exploring (there's an issue in Observatory where it will still send new logs while it's processing a Read All which can cause some problems - this will be fixed in a future release of Observatory).

As you can see, you only get to see one boxel at a time in this interface but you get more information. Counts and averages for different body types, and for Terraformable / Landable / Atmospheric Landable too. Added an Average System Value field too - this is for comparitive purposes rtaher than estimating your existing data, and assumes all bodies are first discovered and that ELWs / WWs / AWs / Terraformables are all mapped.

There is a search function, so you can look up a boxel you previously visited. Start typing in the Boxel Name field and after a few characters the dropdown box will populate.

There is also an Export button. This has 2 functions - it can export all the known boxels you've visited with more detail than the older interface showed, and it can now also export a single boxel which will give a breakdown of the systems within the boxel.
At the moment, you can only export to the clipboard but I may add a CSV option later. When exporting to clipboatd the data will be tab-delimited and should paste easily into Excel or Google Sheets. When pasting in Excel, I'd suggest tweaking the format by doing the following (no idea it it works in Excel365):
  • Hit Alt+H -> O -> E then on the Alignment tab, untick Wrap Text - this will stop the lines being squished over multiple lines
  • Hit Alt+H -> O -> I - this will set the column width properly.
For Google Sheets:
  • Staight after pasting, right click a column header (so A, B etc) and choose "Resize the Columns", and "Fit to Data"

I tried to get this data available in the interface itself but there's too much and it becomes cumbersome where there's a lot of it, and it still wouldn't allow searching / sorting etc.A spreadsheet is the better option.

Remember that the FSS Body Count includes stars so it won't match the sum of the planet data. I will think about adding stars at a later date but that's a lot of extra work for little benefit.

The interface will mostly follow Observatory's theme - except the datagrid which at the moment doesn't respect theming. I hope to fix this at a later date.

Settings for the plugin look like this:
8YcRbjJ.png

Similar to before. Minimum Sys Count only affects what's exported. I'd suggest allowing automatic updates (but not beta). DateFormat expects a format with specifiers like this

To install, grab it from here. Close Observatory then double click the .eop or copy it to the plugins folder.

The new Elite Observatory version update doesn't have the voice.
I've completed forgotten how to find, let alone activate, the voice settings.
Did you work this out? Vithigar had to remove the Herald plugin due to increasing costs but you can get the default voice back by hitting the Core tab then Core Settings and look for Audio Notifications.

OK, I've updated Stellar Overlay which should fix an issue that stopped task bar appearing when hidden under certain cirumstances (and a couple of other more obscure fixes).

I've also updated BioInsights:
  • Tweaked a whole bunch of criteria from people sending me reports of unpredicted bios
  • Fixed Crystalline Shard predictions
  • Fixed a few issues with FSS notifications
  • Added basic theming
  • Added option to remove splitters between bodies
  • When popped out, you can now navigate to other parts of the plugin by right clicking window and selecting Navigate (instead of having to use buttons that you may have hidden)

For theming, there is a new button in settings, Configure Theming. When you click this it will show the BioInsights window (so when you save the theme, you can see how it looks easily) and bring up a popup:

If you choose "Basic Theming" it will unlock the section below where you can double click the various colours and set your own ones. For example, you can make it look more like the old version:

Eventually, I'll implement the Advanced option which will allow you to import someone else's theme. This will also include the ability to change all the iconography too.

Yes thanks, I don't find the menus very intuitive. Sometimes it's not clear where the options are or how far down you can go.
It's still extremely useful once I get it configured properly!

I've also updated BioInsights:
Using the auto-update function this reset all my BioInsight notification settings. Is this because you added some new settings and thus had to overwrite the previous settings to have effect, or do I have to re-set my preferences on every update?

This was possibly the result of me adding more granularity to the notifications - so you can have audio only, visual only, plugin notification only (if you use things like Aggregator), or any mix of the 3. I added this some time back and not in front of that PC to be able to check but I thought I'd tried to carry across some sensible defaults from older settings - but maybe that didn't work as expected.

So hopefully only a one time thing, anyway.

Hi,
updated to new BioInsights version, one of my favorite tools, so thanks for that.
I experienced one small inconvenience problem.
Prior to the update, there was a persistent pop-up notification showing distances travelled from 1st/2nd sample.
Is this notification gone with the new version, because I couldn't find it in the settings?

So BioInsights doesn't have this notification (not yet anyway - it is coming though). BioInsights gives a notification when you've gone the minimum distance from the previous sample(s), but not a persistent one showing current distance.
What you probably had was a notification from the bundled plugin Botanist - this has a persistent notification, but I'm going to guess you also installed StellarOverlay recently. Unfortunately, at the moment "notifier plugins" like Stellar Overlay can't control persistent notifications. Instead, it'll show it for twice as long as a normal notification and then it'll disappear. The next version of Observatory will fix this, and then I'll release a slightly updated StellarOverlay which should have persistent notifications working properly.

OK, got it, thanks for the fast response.
Yes, installed StellarOverlay and looking forward to the updates you mention.
Great work and great help!

I've updated BioInsights, Evaluator and StellarOverlay

  • Tweaked BioInsights theming
  • Added Theming in Evaluator (works the same as BioInsights)
  • Persistent Notifications should now be persistent
  • Changed inter-plugin communication to use native Observatory messaging
  • Misc bug fixes

Because the way the plugins talk to each other, you should update all the ones you use at the same time (or you may have notification issues). These updates also require Observatory 1.2.8.

While everyone is distracted by Colonisation, seems a good time to quietly drop a new (mostly exploration focussed) plugin :)

Presenting AstroAnalytica. This plugin replaces the functionality of SignalMonitor, GEC, and CodexEntries plugins. It also does a few other things too and has many more features planned as soon as I get time to add them.

Currently it can:
  • Notify when Notable Stellar Phenomenon are detected in a system (previously in SignalMonitor)
  • Notify of detected Listening Posts (previously in SignalMonitor)
  • Notify of detected Number Stations (Unregistered Comms Beacons) (previously in SignalMonitor)
  • Notify you if the number of specific resource hotspots exceeds a configureable amount (e.g., it can tell you if there are over 5 Tritium hotspots in a scanned ring) (previously in Signal Monitor)
  • Notify you of all new Codex Entries (previously in CodexEntries)
  • Present a list of GEC Points Of Interest ordered by their proximity to you (previously in GEC)
  • Notify you when a body meets the minimum requirements for Guardian ruins (note that this doesn't mean ruins are present - just that the body meets the very minimum requirements).
  • Warn you when you approach a body over a certain gravitational limit to ensure you're careful about landing
  • Notify you when the detected Helium level in a boxel is over a configurable amount
  • Notify you when the angular diameter of a bodies parent(s) exceeds a certain amount (this feature is a minimal implementation currently and will be improved in the future to include rings and siblings

Hit Settings -> Configure to enable / disable / tweak rules.

GEC entries has it's own separate button on the interface. Note that currently it won't report if you've already visited a POI or not. This feature relies on (another) unreleased plugin which I hope to release soon, but it still requires further integration with BioInsights that I've not had time to sort yet.
