MattG's Observatory plugins

Should be working - but you'll need to make sure you have the very latest Observatory Core - see here

If you use EDJP at all, you'll also need to update that.

Don't you just love unannounced changes that do nothing useful but cause grief for app developers? 🙃

(BioInsights will be getting an update soon though, so keep an eye for it)
Thank you for your never ending support, updated EDJP recently, as it stopped working (Boxel explorer was no longer providing correct system names to my cache).

Ok, further testing today confirms that it's not working for me. Nothing shows up in the window. I tried doing a Read All, which filled the window with previous data, but nothing for the system I'm currently in, nor the body on which I'm doing exobiology.

I'm also noticing a new behavior. When a pop-up window is displayed (like the one that tells you when you've gone enough distance), it takes over my keyboard and joystick inputs. I cannot drive or fly while the popup is there, I just continue on my previous course and speed. My inputs are ignored until the window goes away.

Not sure why that would change, but it has.

OK, If you check the BioInsights settings, there is a LogFile field - can you send me the contents of that file?

I do have a new version ready to go later today or tomorrow which might fix whatever you're experencing, but log might shed some more light.

Ok I have downloaded the latest versions of everything tested all this while driving around on a planet, everything did seem to function exactly as it did before the update. If it's grabbing focus, which it appears to be doing that's strange, I would suggest checking that you are running borderless windowed rather than fullscreen and a setting that sets focus to pop up windows.

As varonica says - double check you're running borderless. I don't see this behaviour (and I don't see an issue with BioInsights either - though that doesn't mean there isn't a problem). If it persists, raise it in the Observatory thread as that is outside the control of BioInsights (or any plugin. I think).

Ok. I sent you the log file in a PM.

The popup window stealing focus went away on its own. It was quite a surprise when I suddenly lost control of my vehicle each time there was a popup, but now it's gone. So...I dunno.

:)

Not sure if it's exactly the same problem here. I see an overlay, but nothing is shown in the BioInsights main window. I'm not sure if the overlay possibly comes from the Botanist plugin, anyway. But distance for next sample is properly voice announced, so I think in parts it seems to work. Can I PM the log file to you?
Could you try hitting Stop in ObsCore, Read All and then Start, and then check if BI works in the session after that? I have a new release imminent which I hope will fix any issues - but the above would be a useful test 👍

New BioInsights and Codex Companion finally available (from here)
  • Tweaked rules for a few species
  • Added a small handful of new variants that hadn't been seen until last couple of weeks (many involving Wolf Rayets)
  • Added a mark column to show when a marked species is detected. Notes will now show which of the possible variants is marked.
  • Mark field will show $$$ for bodies determined to be high value
  • Added a setting to mark systems 'high value' where Stratum Tectonicas is likely
  • Added an option for extended output that will show extra body details
  • Unmark Seen Species in CC is a bit less annoying - it'll automatically do a refresh before processing and only show 1 Message Box
  • CC is a bit more graceful if you try and use it while a Read All is happening.
  • Many under-the-hood changes and efficiencies

Awesome, thanks for the new version! But what does this line mean? Are Stratum Tectonicas especially high in value? Where are they found?
They're worth just over 800k base (so usually 1.6million if no-one else sold the data before you). Of the valuable bios they're by far the most common. If BioInsights detects Tectonicas might be present, is the only Stratum predicted, and the total number of species predicted matches the Bio Count for the body it'll be flagged - 95% of the time this'll mean it predicts a Bacteria and Tectonicas on a body with 2 Bio signatures. They're also extremely easy to find (in my experience). Easy exobiologist rank. As for necessary conditions - check in Codex Companion :)

Edit: and this flag means you can have Tectonicas flagged without needing to set a high value amount - which is how I use it.

I was looking at that, trying to understand what it does. I guess the grid shows stuff in green that can be found in your region? I'm not clear enough on the underlying game mechanisms, I guess.

So, near the top you select the region you’re interested in - if nothing specific then go for “any region” at top. Then you have a series of tabs for the different genuses - select Stratum. That’ll give you a table with species along the top and variant (colour) down side - double click Tectonicas Green. That’ll give you a popup of the requirements for that bio. If the species is blue at the top then it’s colour is determined by parent star class, if it’s orange then it’s a surface material. Shout if anything is unclear.

So the distances are per Genus rather than per Species - so for example Aleoida is 150m while Bacterium are 500m, but all Species of Bacterium (Tela, Cerbrus, etc) will be 500m. Not that you need to worry about it, BioInsights knows the distances and will let you know when you're good for 2nd and 3rd scans :)
Do you have a list of this distance data or do you know where I could source such a list? o7

I'm out doing a fairly casual explore, less than 1000LY from the bubble, just finding unmapped and un-landed planets and doing a bit of exobiology.

After talking about Stratum Tectonicas here yesterday, the very first planet I landed on had them right where I disembarked for the first footfall! I've never seen them before. Now that's an amusing coincidence isn't it? :)

Bioinsights is working well now, with just the occasional failure to pop up the "distance traveled" message.

I've not witnessed this but someone else also mentioned it - if you can help provide circumstances when it occurs that would be useful.

It seems random to me. It worked today for the Stratums. Then I did some Tussocks that were nearby, and it did not work for the first one (should have gone off after 200 meters). But it did work for the next sample, which was another 200 meters. It has always been like this for me, about 90% reliable.
