Max Boost Speed

Been having great fun playing cat and mouse with an Imp Clipper or two whilst delivering much needed Federal Aid. Only one Clipper has been able to keep up with me (just) but his missiles didn't reach me in time. Anyway it got me wondering. What's the highest boost speed you've gotten out of a ship?

Mine is 464 from a trusty old Cobra.

i think 440 is my best i can do now. Its soooo funny to breach blockade to deliver some stuff. Imperial dudes always indredict me, I almost always submit, dont wait and boost away. One dude tried to keep up with me, but stayed 6km behind anyway.
Would be better for them to spread out and intredict me in seconds after I get into supercruise again. It's more probable I'll do mistakes and I will get some damage.

Yep, Cobras are so fun to fly! I own 5 of them with different configs.
I have not even tried the Diamondback Scout since it is slower for the same armor/shield and firepower, though two more utility mounts. Nobody has been able to convince me to give it a try..?

The scouts really nice good hard-points and internal slots, like a souped up viper (slightly worse shields). I can get 403 out of it with military composite armour and an a-fit bounty hunting load-out, I'm just looking for a station where I can flog the armour and try a low weight speedy version.

Its really good fun, perfect little mission runner/hunter.

This illustrates the problem of cobra very well, relatively heavy ship with relatively small thrusters, to get maximum possible speed you need those 1/2 of optimal mass magick number, 210T in case of A4 thrusters. It means that you can get it only with lightweight configuration, without weapons, shields and cargo.

Cobra is only faster than a Clipper with a very stripped down config. Careful not to take a scratch :D
Even a sneeze could destroy you, assuming it can catch you though.

I have been interdicted many times by Clippers (including Bangfish) and even in a shieldless Cobra, only got a few scratches.
Keep in mind that you can also use chaff at the beginning, and silent running in case yours shield drops.

Lightweight alloy is fine: don't lose your shield or get the hell out ;-)
Weapons weight in total 10tons... See my configuration above, I reach 450m/s with an empty tank.

Fastest I've ever seen is ~465 in a completely stripped down Cobra. My lightest useful trade Cobra can hit 462, without cargo.

Clipper peaks at 441 m/s (that's it actual cap, removing more weight won't make it go faster), but it loses speed more slowly and can boost slightly more often than the Cobra, so Cobra typically have difficulty escaping a fast Clipper without a head start. Clipper can also reach it's peak speed in a fully armed combat config.

I've just done some speed tests with a diamondback scout :

Pips to engines
Max throttle or peak boost
A-fit fully armed and armoured
282 T
A-fit fully armed
no armour
256 T
Lightweight fit armed no armour 248 T
Speed fit unarmed light shields
209 T
2
Throttle
245
250
252
261
4
Boost
341
348
351
363
2
Throttle
305
311
313
325
4
Boost
409
417
420
430

Conclusion, worry about clippers.

Good job that man!

This is one reason I switched from a Scout to a Cobra. A clipper got me down to ~25% hull before I finally escaped. With the nippier Cobra the most they've got me down to is ~90%.

Yep, if the cobra had a centered chair and hardpoints that covered above and below the midline it would be my favorite ship. I'll just have to fly wiggly and spam chaff if chased by a clipper in my DBS.

thats kinda disadvantage, otherwise that ship is the beast. Using it for exploring, bounty hunting, CZs, fortification hauling and casual rare commodities trading when I want to move from system to system. No need for other ship so far...

Yeah the DBS has definitely won me over, and it looks like the mutant offspring of an attack helicopter and an insect. It needs a yellow and black "hornet" skin.

So, to summarize, you prefer to fly the DBS for its harpoints placement, its two additional utility mount and its look*, right?
I believe I will stick to the Cobra. I had so much fun yesterday undermining Hudson while a wing of 2 Clippers, a FdL and python tried to interdict me. They could simply do nothing while I took their Federal Supply ships one by one :)

*: I can understand that, I did love my dropship for its look :)

Pretty much, the central seat position is more important than the external look for me, but the hard-points are the deal maker. They fit well with my fighting style, I find the cobra's are too widely spaced.
