The first and only time i went to Colonia, I went there to unlock the engineers, just to have more pinned blueprints. In order to raise rep at each of those engineers you need to engineer something. Since I was going there in my fully-engineered DBX, I needed some other ship to engineer once I was there. What to do? Should I buy a ship in Colonia? Instead, I decided to transfer my mining Krait out there. It needed some work, and I'd be able to use it to gather the raw mats needed to unlock one of the engineers. It's been a couple years now, but if I recall it was 60 hours and over 100m to transfer it to Jaques. Each way! But it's only money.
As I made my way to Colonia I decided to stop off on the highway, at a place called Caravanserai. It's maybe 2/3 of the way there. I wanted to sell some data and rep-up with the Colonia Council for engineer unlocking. So before I left I whistled for the mining Krait. This way it would already be in transfer while I took my time on the last leg to Colonia. Otherwise I would have needed to wait the full 60 hours once I landed at Jaques. The bubble to Caravanserai leg was 43 hours and 98m!
As it turned out I beat my Krait by 6.5 hours, touching down at Jaques ahead of my mining Krait's arrival in Caravanserai. But it worked out great, the final leg of the transfer was much shorter and before long I had both ships in Colonia, the Krait and DBX. I then used the Krait to raise engineer access rep, while also improving it. When all this was done I then did those same steps in reverse, though now the final transfer leg was much longer. In all the transfer out and back was 120 hours and cost over 200 million. But I made nearly 600m in exploration data on the trip and anyway I have lots of money and nothing to spend it on, so for me it was just the cost of doing business. I make all that money so that decisions like this are easy.
