Mechanical components: Where on earth are they?

I'm looking for these things, shooting down countless cargo ships for them... Nothing.

What am I doing wrong? I don't want lvl 5 thrusters, just lvl 3, but it's impossible for me.

Help?

Usually on planet surfaces, or after a ship has been destroyed (more common) Check your contacts, select them as a target, and scoop them up.

I've destroyed many ships, and always check contacts. Never any mechanical components there. :(

Sometimes you find these from destroyed pirates (combat-oriented ships), mostly from the following types of USS: Combat Aftermath, all types of "Emissions": Degraded, Encoded, etc. To find out the type of USS, select it, point your ship at it and wait a few seconds. They are really quite plentiful.

Yes, I collected quite a few from USS sources. I usually drop into "High Grade Emissions" and "Encoded Emissions" more than others while hunting data beacons and stuff.

Best places are USS's in low security and anarchy systems with high populations and make sure you are away from shipping lanes. o7

Screenshot made. Economy type never occurred to me. Will defo' try it out.
