.... However, I'm surprised there is a cat and no Pskokow making an appearance floating accross space on the right hand monitor.

Sorry couldn't resist a quick photoshop edit! ;) (excuse the roughness!!) :p

Good interview, thanks Sandy.

The way this is overall coming together is a testament to you and the rest of the FD team, fundamentally the design of the game is pretty much the game. Respect to you, sir.

Great interview, loving the sound of the missions, etc.

Was wondering if the rest of the ideas bandied about on the forum (outside the DDF) are at all useful or picked up by the team?

Get the impression Sandy's got a decent sense of humour - hopefully we'll get some humorous touches in the game too.

Can't wait for the finished article!

Thanks Sandy and Mark. Good interview :)

@ Jonathan Bottone; What are you working on and what do you most enjoy about designing for Elite IV?

The missions and events system. It’s a complicated beast, but if we can pull it off the player will always have a multitude of interesting plots to become entangled with (intentionally and accidentally).

What's this IF business - you mean WHEN don't you? ;)

Hello Rog!

Trust me, when you're wearing a face made for radio, humour's all you got. Yeah, we keep an weather on on most of the forums; you never know when you're going to stumble on a nugget of chewy goodness (though we tend to lurk rather than post).

Hello Lobstris!

But of course!

Hello Memnoch!

Hats are full of all the win. At the moment I have accumulated five, including, you'll be pleased to note, a straw sombrero (you can just see a bit of it poking out from behind the balloon that is my head).

Strangely, I own but one of them. When I'm not wearing them, they live perched on a plastic longsword lodged into my PC case.

A question for Jonathan Bottone:

Hi, the whole game so far is looking pretty epic, but what steps are being taken to stop in-game features looking 'samey' after a month or so?

Thanks for the interview :)

I rather like the idea of entering the games industry myself one day.. Have a couple of projects I keep meaning to get started.

I too worked in banking sometime ago and whilst it was well paid it I found it so incredibly tedious and dry I felt like it had sucked my soul away. As a result I ended up leaving computing altogether and going off to do something totally different.

The games industry seems to be where all the fun, challenge and reward is; combining technical knowledge and creativity.

The game is becoming something incredible to behold and continues to exceed expectations. Keep up the amazing work guys! ;)

Ah that's why my left ear is twitching randomly, it happens whenever one of you devs reads my posts! Hehehe

I'm already in the games (small g) industry... It's where my employers choose to focus their services.... Its called Local Government :(

That was a good read. Made me laugh when I read that about convoluted route to the job you ended up doing Sandy. I ended up training people on how to do special effects for movies and games, via working as a writer for the Guardian, and I'm still not quite sure how that works. I'm doing a presentation to some school kids tomorrow to show them what movie special effects editors do; it's going to be hilarious if any of them ask me how I ended up with that job and what qualifications I'd recommend. :D

Fantastic interview. Interesting to see a little insight into the Event system. I am fascinated to see this working presumably sometime in Beta. I am particularly intrigued in how compelling it will be for players to take missions and then to see their impact on the evolving galaxy. This for me is the part that has the potential to make the galaxy feel alive. We've seen the glitzy graphics and way cool combat, but this is the piece that's never existed before.

I appreciate all the work that's gone into this aspect and I look forward to being awed sometime in the near future.

Many thanks to all who have been involved

I love this guy, he's always upbeat, even when we're nitpicking and waffling. Great interview, pleasure to finally see you Sandy! :)
