Meet the Team - James Stimpson - Senior Designer

How do you plan on playing CQC? Do you prefer to hang back and support, or lead from the front?

In X-Wing:Alliance I tended to charge in flying a basic TIE fighter. I'd probably do the same in CQC, see how much havoc I can cause in the most basic ship.

Keep up the good work! Looks like an exciting project to work on.

I have no subtlety or patience. Guns blazing hoping that one of those Gods I don't believe in has pity on me and allows me to do some damage before I die.

Hi James, nice to get to know you :)

I'll play CQC casually. On release, I'm going to try it out a few times, and then I'll return to the rest of the game.

Combat is interesting, but without consequences there's not enough thrill in it for me. I've spent quite some time and effort to get my ship(s), and I LIKE that combat means risking the ship, credits, bounties and other progress. I also LIKE entering a hostile system after traveling several jumps, hoping I'll make it to the nearest station before getting interdicted and potentially killed, possibly having to travel all the way there again.

That said, CQC does have some appeal. I feel close quarter combat is really missing from the main game. But I'd really rather see that in the main game instead of a stand alone. Hopefully we'll see CQC or parts of it merged back into the main game.

Carry on, Commander!

Federation, Empire, or Alliance? And why?

I’d probably pick the Federation because I love flying the Fed Fighter.

Tell the community a fun fact about yourself.

I wrote a children’s book that I’m trying (and failing) to get published.

Ah another author, good first impression.

Also... Federation? Braben did not fire you for not being Empire?!

I plan on making sure it's not broken first. Then I'll see if it's worth it to actually play it for any length of time.
Got burned by investing too much time in PowerPlay for no reward, so I'm taking CQC with a huge bag of salt.

After that I plan to make sure I'm on a team that knows what the definition of "team" is. A good team usually works so well together that there's not really a "leader", they all know their individual strengths and weaknesses and play well together and know what each other is going to do right off the bat. A good team is well-versed in all aspects of the game so each one can pick a different "role" every time and play just as well as the next member in the team, if not a bit better.
Practice, practice, practice. You bleed in training so you won't bleed in battle.

Lol I feel like that we should anticipate it to be broken... just to not crash the hype train, again...

Em' insurance is expensive...
