Menu music off, but annoying sounds remain.

When not playing, I want to leave the main menu up.

However: I do not want to have to use the volume mixer every time to turn off the sounds at the main menu.

So, I found the "turn off menu music" setting, but the darn background noises are still there (at a low enough volume to make me question my sanity). Any way to actually make the main menu silent without turning off sound entirely and having to restore it each time I go back to the game?

Sound Effect Volume and Music Volume have their separate sliders.
But you don't even have to mess with that, both also have muted/unmuted toggles.
Toggle both to muted and your main menu is silent

My keyboard has a mute button, yours probably does too.

Well, acutally it does not. Unless it is on one of F1 to F12. And I do not want to mute the whole computer, I migth watch youtube or play another game. I can also easily jsut turn down the volume on my speakers, which does not just turn off the sound of the game.

Which does not solve the problem that I have to go into settings and turn on/off the muting every time I enter or leave the game.

You're on PC, right? If not, please just ignore the following : :)

Right click on the speaker icon on your task bar (use the Win key or alt-tab to see it), then select Volume Mixer. Find your ED client on the list, then click the mute icon. That will mute ED and nothing else.

Simple, don't go all the way out the Main menu. Just hit escape once to
get to that Resume selection screen. It is all silence there. It is for me at least.

Quoting my original post:

So yes, I know about that one and I still do not want to jump through all those hoops every time I get a phone call.

Of course, for the phone call I will likely want to mute the computer using the volume control on the speakers anyway. But it is not always a phone call.

But at this point my ship is still in the game right? Hurtling toward either a stellar body or a fuel rats code red?

Well if you are anywhere else other than a port then I'm afraid yes. It is up to you to stop your ship somewhere "safe"
and power down modules to save fuel. But if you are AFK for that long, might as well just exit the game completely.
I've left my ship like that for about an hour and a half and when I got back everything was fine. Depends on your situation
I guess.
X.
