Its about time SOMEBODY started protecting the Barnacles. Thank all the signs of the zodiac that the Federation is taking up the task. For months now people have been harvesting materials from these alien structures without any thought as to the consequences. Its Achernar all over again I tell you!
Your rank as 'Admiral' means nothing. During a recent Community Goal at Beta Hydri, a system permit locked to allow only members of the Federation Naval Auxiliary access, there was STRONG opposition and a number of loyal Federation officers were killed by their supposed 'brothers-in-arms'. Let me ask you this 'Admiral': What is your rank in the Empire, hmm?
It has been known for over a year now that flying too close to a Capital Ship (Federation or Imperial) is grounds for immediate retaliation. Why? Because of Commanders taking advantage of these ship's Commanding Officers trust.
Lack of armament does not equate to a lack of hostile intent.

Conspiracy? Yes. There is a conspiracy among members of the general public using potentially alien technology and lifeforms to wage a personal war. Who delivered the 'unknown artifacts' to the stations that then required 'meta-alloys' to mitigate the damage? It wasn't the Federation! It was independent Commanders. The Federation is trying to put a stop to this and THEY get the blame? You've got to be kidding me.
That is the first I have heard of this happening... Incredible! You say you cleaned out the barnacle site, does this mean you shot every spike or just the meta alloy? Also, dp you know approximately how long you were there before the feds showed up?
The whole thing is a waste of time. Take a break have a kit kat/
The particular engineer mission is so bad that you would have to have to actually try really hard to make it worse.
Get them to make it sensible, or just get them to can it, it's so awful that Jebus cried. It's horrible and pointless and why people have to do it is anyone's guess. And I think FD by now know it, it's a shat storm that is so depressing that anyone who has done it remains scarred by it for life.
There is crap and then there is crapper, this mission is one that could not get any crapper which is impressive.
It does thankyou. I have done nearly exactly the same thing; waited a long time, winged up and waited for my mate to arrive (was bringing me out a UA) even the cigarette break, and haven't had any feds show up. Pretty much the only thing I didn't do that you did was shoot all the spikes. Looks like I'm going to have to do some tests.Lets see....
I shot every spike - as I was after the material for use with engineers, scanned the structure (which I presume is how I go the barnicle data). Took a quick cigarette break as this was my first site that as active on the planet, the others around the canyon were all defunct.
Quick chat with my mate, and about 10 minutes for him to arrive.
I reckon somewhere around 15-20 minutes, I do not normally hang around the barnicles that long - too eerie.
I was in my Cobra and landed as that point the scanner is showing terrain so it is possible they showed up before I got inot my buggy, and left me alone, as I was not actually shooting anything when we spotted them. However 2 scout equipped Cobra's are not gonna hang around to see how friendly they are.
Hope this helps
Simon

I once walked home from work it was about a thousand miles, I consider that to be interesting, in the scale of crap though this mission is basically off the charts boring pointless and it demeans every player who has to do it.
Uh... what..? You walked 1000 miles? Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles to wind up... Here?

and I would walk 1000 more to get this removed from the game, it is not just awful it demeans every player who has to do it. IT makes you a chump.
