Greetings Commanders!

This here is a thread for all interested parties to come and put your Cmdrs name down in the hunt for whatever has been missed on Merope 5C.

As you may well know some very brave folks managed to wrestle away an Unknown Probe from a military convoy today. It was then found that the probe is pointing NOT towards Merope, but rather Merope 5C.

The aim of this impromptu mission is to scour the entire surface and report back, either directly to Cannon command or the UA thread.

We need all the people we can get! Remember to put your Cmdr name down as it's always more fun to travel together and increases the likelihood of not missing something.

I'm going to be a bit unconventional and will bring my Keelback, the 'Eyes Wide Open'. She has a wake scanner and a Planetary Vehicle Hangar but no weapons and no corrosion-resistant cargo rack. If I find anything corrosive, I'll hand it over to someone else (although she does have the jump range to easily reach the Canonn Institute before things get too damaged).

Given the reported comms from the convoy (that mentions orbital testing), in the first instance I'll fly around in orbital cruise looking for signal sources there.

I'm promoting a linear search method and I've created a spreadsheet to track it:

The thinking here is that claiming that a grid has been 'searched' is a bit dubious.
The idea is to search 10 degree arc straight line paths of latitude or longitude and mark them off as the surface below them have been searched.

The granularity starts at 10 degree intervals which obviously doesn't provide full coverage, so intermediate 5 degree and then 1 degree lines would be added later, to fill in the gaps.

I'll head there at about five or six PST, depending on how long the commodity search for my tier 5 FSD upgrade goes. After that I've got nothing better to do.

As luck would have it (sort of) I'm in Merope system already. It's the nearest known source for Vanadium which Palin seems to think is critical for certain engineering feats. I'm usually a bit thin through the week but happy to help out while I'm in the area.
