Met My First Hacker Today

It's one thing for us to fire without a lock, not sure if it's so easy to program that for the computer (without an "I Win" workaround).

I wouldn't have a problem with that - the station surely has humans who can use manual aiming, so I don't see why the game should not ignore the chaff for the purposes of some station weapons fire. Particularly if they get upgrades, keep the little lasers on automatic but keep the big guns for the persistent offenders.

Hmm. that thread has vanished. I thought that the mods had specifically stated that linking to youtube videos was okay. There's no naming and shaming just video footage for others to draw their conclusions from.

NO. Edward (not the mods) specifically said that pointing them at youtube video evidence was fine, if not encouraged. But not on here (i.e. do it when you report them). Name and shame on here is still against the EULA.

He was hanging out inside the George Lucas Sation in Leesti. Yes, inside. The station was firing on him as I entered, on his small viper craft. As I entered, my shields dropped very suddenly as a stream of dumbfires pounded my ship. I quickly spammed shield cells, but he still got my shields down and hull to 75% before I could dock and escape his attack. He sat, hovering over my landing pad, the station blasting his tiny viper the whole time. I thought maybe he had zipped out of the station, spamming shield cells to not get his ship destroyed, but no, the whole 5 minutes I sat in the docking bay he hovered overhead with all the station's turrets blasting him. As soon as I launched, there he was, blasting an endless stream of dumfires, I managed to dodge some and get my shield cells going agains, but they just kept coming with no time to reload and I eventually lost my ship.

Rebuy cost of 4 Mil.

I reported the player's name as soon as it happened.

This kind of problem is a game breaking issue as far as I'm concerned for games. If Frontier doesn't plan to address the issues of allowing the clients to dictate how much health, shields, ammo, etc. a player's ship has, the hackers are going to lead this game down a path that leads to more fair minded players deciding they have no option but to cheat as well. I'm not threatening you, Frontier; I'm not saying I'm going to hack my client like this. I am saying expect it to become the norm if you don't address the matter soon. A quick Google search makes it clear just how easily and extensively anyone can do this.

He is not hacking lol, He is using chaff to disrupt the gimbled station lasers. And if you get in a corner the lasers behind you can't hit you as well. Its a tactic you will be seeing more and more of to control a faction or station in that faction. Load up with dumbfire missles and tear them up.

Haven't read the whole thread, but after much inquiry someone finally explained to me the way to "block" someone who's not already on your friends list. If they're being obnoxious and are in your instance, pull up the comms menu, spot them, and "block" should supposedly be an option.

Now I don't know if that bars them from your instance (or greatly reduces the chances that they'll appear there) or only blocks comms from them. Can anyone comment?

According to some Frontier messages, it does not completely block them, just lowers the chance. And if there is just one instance for a certain area, you'll probably end up there with them anyway.

This only blocks them from communicating with you in the game. It does not have any effect on instancing. The so called "ignore" function that was supposed to reduce the chances of you being instanced with another player has never been implemented up to now, and as far as I know FD have not commented on whether it's still on teh to do list, or abandoned as a concept.

To be clear, at the moment there is no way to prevent yourself from being put with any individual other player except for go solo mode or in a group that they are not part of.

Oh goody, then. I fervently hope that it's something they're still working on.

TBH i'm rapidly developing the opinion that once you enter the dock hardpoints should no longer deploy and if deployed already they should retract. i can see a few people moaning about this idea for reasons of immersion and realism but its way better than the alternative.

I made a comment similar to this in another thread.. automatic close hardpoints in stations, and disable weapons/launcher systems when gear is down.. the former prevents station ganking, the later is a sign of "I'm friendly" and prevents accidents in stations.

As for the hacking.. it would appear that hacking the client is very possible.. I'm actually quite impressed with the extent of the code injection these folks are doing..

FD would probably ban them then for combat logging *grins*

It's not combat logging if you're not in combat.

If I am on the landing pad, it lowers, turns around, then lefts.

You can quit before the platform even starts to turn. They will not even know you were there.

Z...

i just did a quick search myself and i wouldn't rely too much on those cheat sites being accurate, one site i visited states that the game was released for both PC & Mac OS in December, shows how much they know as FD are still working on the Mac version and it wont be out for months :p

I've been playing Elite Dangerous on my Mac for two months now. Well, technically my Mac running windows. :)

Someone abusing a flaw in a game isn't a griefer. Blame the crappy company who made the game you're playing. They are the ones who put it in the game, I would take advantage of such mistakes as well, and do. I don't know why any of you like this game anyway, p2p guarantees hacking and it's all instanced based with a 32 player cap. Vast universe with only 32 people in it, in a pc game? What kind of lame crap is that. This game seems like a single player game with multiplayer added on as an after thought, and not a very good one. Eve Online is where it's at.

well the good news for you is Eve is still going, so there is a solution for you.

Me personally I have zero interest in Eve, and conversely love elite.

I agree FD need to fix exploits where they can, but I disagree that it is perfectly acceptable to abuse an exploit just because you can. As others have said, there is technically nothing to stop you from ramming cars in a racing sim, it does not mean that anyone doing that isnt a complete and utter berk however.

So go play Eve and stop trolling. I'm having a great time in E:D.[/QUOTE

I see the latest patch notes say that they have beefed up the station defences and stopped them from being confused by chaff - this was one key exploit that was being used inside stations, so hopefully this will make a difference now.
