I wouldn't say they were better, I've certainly never found them to be so. I went to the first site on the list at HIP 21246 a few months ago. One of those is an active Large Barnacle which has 4 Meta Alloys at it, as well as all of the low grade mats you can get from them.
If you were just interested in farming the MAs, then you can get 4 every couple of minutes at large barnacle sites.

If you filter the galmap for civilization/Thargoid a swathe of systems will display green. Each has a structure which can be located by FSS.
These have up to 10 MA and I've never seen them depleted.
