Micro-Tutorial: Let's Scan

There seems to be some confusion regarding the new FSS, so I cobbled this little video together.

On the first planet, I demonstrate a minor bug - planets with Atmospheres do not show the full planetary details when scanned, unless you zoom out and back in on them. You'll see later scans of atmospheric worlds with no details. Likewise you'll see non-atmospheric planets that do show their details.

And finally, on the last planet, I purposefully misaligned my reticle to demonstrate how sensitive it is.

If this helps anyone get a better grasp on the new FSS, then its purpose is served.

I think the best place this topic would be is in Newcomers forums.

I actually have a sticky-thread there which I will be doing a massive re-write/update of at some upcoming point in time.
For now, this is here as I have seen more than a number of threads expression confusion, frustration and misunderstanding of this new scanning system.

So thanks for the thought, but...

Er, not really since the FSS is new to every pilot no matter how long they have been playing Elite. I found it useful just to see how Indigo had set up his key bindings.

Is your microphone broken? ... ;)

If anyone needs further help / additional info, I put this guide (inc. bindings) plus demo videos together a couple of weeks ago: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...e-Exploration-Tools-With-Demonstration-Videos

Nope, mic works, I just don't use it. Besides, you really don't want to listen to me narrate.

For the record though, the way I have my bindings is:

I use my flight stick to move the reticle. I use one of the thumb buttons on my throttle to zoom in/zoom out.
I use the twist of my flight stick to adjust the tuning.
I use one of the hat switches on my throttle to lock my currently scanned object.
I use one of the other hat switches for stepped zoom (up/down) and fine adjust tuning (left/right).
I use the trigger on my fight stick to exit FSS.
I use the forward thumb switch on my throttle to enter FSS.

For me, it works perfectly.
