Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

I tried playing something else whilst this was downloading in the background...turned out that's a big nope. Besides using 35% of my CPU (i7 8700k) when it was shoved onto the second monitor, minimised or not...every time I pressed the A button on my Xbox controller for any game running full screen on my main monitor, it fired up my browser due to the live web link on the MSFS installer and automatically alt tabbed out to that. It's doing my nut in.

Seems I either give up installing so I can play something else then start all over again when I go to bed...or I just stare at a browser all day...like it's a proper job and all that :cautious:

I can see me downloading this in several nightly installments...can't be doing with installers that commandeer my entire PC from the CPU to control inputs not even assigned to it...whilst it's simply downloading and supposedly assigned and relegated to a background task, that smacks of being designed as an Xbox function rather than PC... please explain to me Mr Microsoft why your installer dominates and hammers CPU useage...what else are you doing behind there that I can't see?

I just wish we could turn off that awful music while it does its thing. 18GB of 95 and it seems like it has been going forever...

You can, though why there is no button for it in the actual application is anyone's guess....

Right click on the volume control icon -> Open Volume Mixer, and MSFS will appear in its own category, so you can mute it while keeping the rest of the applications having normal volume.

WOOHOO!

Thanks - I never thought of that. (y)

While I'm griping, I wish this were like many other games where you can download the first 10GB and fly over a very specific area (like the default Chicago of old FS) while the rest downloads in the background. I just hit the 10GB mark! Now I've got "only" 80 more GB to go...

Well I don't like it taking so long since:

But I am a bit bothered about sorting out that teredo network thingie - I assume I will have to have it installed and working properly for this sim?

PS Something to watch while waiting :p

Its not downloading the gaming world, that is streamed-in when start your flight. And you're not going to be able to play much of anything while the installer is busy, anyway. :/

First impressions: plays smoothly with no crashes or immediately apparant bugs/issues in +-90 min. X56 was auto-configured in a sensible way. It shows a picture where each function is, which is handy. Performance at 4K/ultra is not all that great, think 25-30FPS. In this type of game mostly playable, but hardly ideal. But it looks absolutely stunning on a 48" OLED. Send some pics to a mate, looking at them on his phone he thought I was in a real plane.

Game is very unstable. Had it just quit to desktop 4 times over the last hour. When it.s running it seems ok framerate wise. Just wish I had a hang of the control system.

Given that this morning is already allocated to hospital hell I'm starting to consider leaving loading this until later in the week when a) things have calmed down a it and b) the first patch is out.... (Being realistic, I fully expect this good intention to last until around 4pm today......)

Based on posts so far I may delay for a week or more...

My download speeds are dropping and it's not my internet... I'm guessing the rest of America is waking up and downloading this, thus maxing out the servers. Anyone else notice a dip? At this rate it'll take another day before I can play!
