Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

There is a big difference from what I can tell; with 'ALL players ON' you get 'ghosts' that can fly/taxi through each other and such. At Lukla today piles of planes where on the one single runaway all the time.
If I were to fly to a more popular area, I would turn this off, mostly for the immersion aspect. But where I normally fly, seeing another player isn't that common, which makes it all the more thrilling when it happens (like ED) :D

I looked for a keybind to toggle nameplates, but nothing came up. I prefer them off, but I'd love to be able to quickly toggle them on long enough to see who is in my sky. Perhaps I can use the map for this functionality?

I spent good few hours today flying around and boy oh boy I think I got really addicted to this sim. Even usually barren/bland areas are interesting due to Bing textures.
Still no major issues, guess I'm lucky, it runs stable and looks beautiful. Unless I jump to one of the jets - instant loos of fps inside the plane, non of the settings helps.
Other than that, I`m def buying the sim after gamepass.

Ive never played a flight sim before. I am in over my head and loving just flying around my local area. So much to learn about flight, and all these controls are intimidating (Elite was a good ice breaker though), but I am absolutely enthralled.

I have a couple questions I will tag onto this post I am having trouble finding info on for anyone who can help.

How do you create a nav point or equivalent while you are just free flying with no flight plan but decide you want to go somewhere?

How do you ask Airports for landing permission?

I also feel like playing and seeing this in action I am part of a paradigm shift in gaming meets technology. It really feels like the future is now type of experience. I sure haven't gotten too many of these... its early, bugs and wonkyness and problems aside, this is something special.
Call them on .9, and ask for clearance. :)

I've enjoyed the previous flight sims, but man oh man, I have never had such a huge permanent grin pasted on my face as I have for the majority of my time with this new sim. Sure, there are issues, but either Microsoft will fix these or I will once some good scenery editing tools are released. The actual sim itself is totally freaking amazing IMO.

A real pilot gave a critique off the various sim aspects beyond the fancy graphics. Wasnt to impressed. Maybe he should have been the test pilot to give realism perspective.
This makes me wonder if he was using the default settings, which have lots of "easy mode" helpers enabled. IIRC, turning all settings to realistic makes for a challenging experience!

The weird thing is that there are trees everywhere.

Yeah something's weird with the tree generation...

Flew up into the summit of Mauna Loa in Hawaii big island, expected to see the 5 mile wide caldera and it's black, hardened lava wasteland, instead the summit caldera had a huge green forest in it, both sad and hilarious... It's surely not a satellite photo issue, and there's not even the slightest hint of vegetation anywhere near that place, so something is off with proc generation.

Is that what's the next generation is about? Post-toasties? :)

You other questions are well covered already. This one though - on your world map you can insert a custom destination anywhere - just click your mouse anywhere on the map and you get the option to "Create Custom". I have not investigated this as I hurt my arm last night and am having difficulty doing much.

Since Microsoft are "partnered" with VATSIM (enthusiasts providing online air traffic control for flight sim) then one would hope that there would be methods of flight planning for IFR including airways, nav points, arrival and departure procedures, etc. I can't find anything about that so far*- the Garmins have the data but I have not tried to flight plan using them yet. Maybe this is something that will develop in the game or perhaps like previous versions, we will just have to do our flight planning outside the game and ignore / disable the AI ATC if we use VATSIM.

Has anyone tried using the FMS in the jets for this?

* EDIT - I just noticed the IFR settings on the world map page - will have to check them out when my arm is better.

Sorry about your arm, and thanks for that tip, looking forward to trying it later.

As much as I love the weather, Microsoft needs to fix this live weather system. It only seems to work a small fraction of the time... :(

That's ok... I was flying south along the Mississippi from St. Louis and not only is the river +50 foot higher than the surrounding countryside, but there's a sunken island as well!

I just spent an hour flying around where I grew up, it's so great being able to recognize everything from the air like this! I've flown in real life over this same area and wow is it spot on from a few hundred feet up. Down at street level its not of course, but from the sky its fantastic.

Took another look, and Wake is there, not sure what went wrong the first time around. So it should be possible to cross the Pacific North of Oceania, at least with a TBM930, via Hawaii-Midway-Wake-Saipan (or Pagan, but unsure if a TBM can land there :) ), then either reaching Japan via Hachijojima, or rather visiting Palau, which -if done right- should be spectacular from air.

I am finding you really have to zoom in on the flight planning map to get the small air strips. They often just show up as a white dot or 'custom'. Keep zooming in and often they will resolve...

The best solution is to disable all the navigation items, that leaves you only with the airport dots.
