Microtransaction DLCs feel incomplete

Official Review - https://www.destructoid.com/experience-a-blast-to-the-past-with-new-planet-coaster-dlc-450970.phtml

The new DLC kits feel incomplete. If these kits were the only scenery we had, they would not be able to build anything. If somebody were to try and build something using ONLY the new DLC kits, they would be very very limited with what we could do with them. This means they have very little value, outside of a few specific pieces.

If the DLC offered a little more, like full building sets, entertainers, or sound effects, then I would feel like they would be worth buying. My problem is not about the price, its about the size/amount of content in each kit. Even if you took the 3 kits and combined them for a total of $10 it would still feel incomplete. I get that we are paying for the "license" and the right to display these images in our parks, but if we ignore the licensing, what do these packs really contain?

- 3 new go-kart cars (these really should be one ride with a variety of car types to choose from, not 3 separate rides :S)
- Some cool special effects (flames, explosions, green smoke)
- A couple transparent windows
- car pieces
- no entertainers or sound effects

those are the biggest things most people are using, and its the Window that scares me the most. I have already seen people using the Window in there parks, as a very common item. That means that even though people might not be using the Licensed items, I still need he DLC to visit any parks that have a window in them... but which of the 3 DLCs would I need? Theres 2 with a window, so I guess I would have to buy both for that ONE single item.

Please understand, that my entire complaint is not about money, but about organization. This style of DLC will shred the workshop into two groups of players (DLC vs Non-DLC) and its not a big deal right now, not yet, but what happens when we have 100 scenery packs as DLC and also a few larger gameplay DLCs?

I dont know Frontiers game plan, but I imagine they will add similar things to PC as they did with RCT3 (soaked, wild, etc) and a lot of people are still hoping for a larger gameplay DLC. I just don't like the small scenery packs of 20 items. Small microtransaction based DLC looks great at first (oh its only $2) but what happens when we have 100 microtransaction DLCs. Microtransactions will cause the workshop to become a catalogue of shopping items. How many scenery pieces need to be a DLC?

Please Frontier, keep add-ons large to prevent the workshop from becoming fragmented. In a year or two from now, new players will find it very frustrating to download from the workshop if they are constantly asked to "buy DLC inorder to access blueprints" it would be much better having large expansions like the original RCT games

Two expansions was more than enough for RCT3 and once you started getting into UGC or Mods, it quickly became very annoying to make sure you had all the correct DLC add-ons to make a park load. Please dont overload PC with microtransactions, it will lower the quality of our overall experience, it will detour many people away, and makes it so only a select few have "access to all features"... I am a game collector and I like having my games complete, but microtransaction based add-ons have very little value

Microtransactions are not of the high quality standard that I expect for Planet Coaster, DLC should not be priced under $10 otherwise it will not be worth the content being sold. These few scenery pieces offer little customization or creativity compared to what an actual scenery set should contain. I would rather pay $10 for a set of 100 scenery objects, instead of $2 for 20 scenery objects, otherwise I will be annoyed when I cant access a blueprint because there is one silly item in it that I have no need for. If I had a choice between buying a full expansion at a price of $45 vs buying 10 DLC packs at $5, i would think that the full expansion at $45 would have a much higher quality to it. If a DLC costs $15 it should be almost equal to 1/3 of the original game IMO

Yes. I liked Back to the Future but In the future I'd rather have a bigger expansion pack with rides and content we are missing. There's a lot of rides from RCT3 they can add like large splash boats, bumper boats, Thunder Bobs, Round Up, Rotor, Gravitron, Swinging Inverter Ship (like Huss Ranger), and more. More horror/spooky items. Narrower bang doors for dark rides.

I feel this downloadable content missed the mark and totally missed what it could have been. In the video of the back to the future they showed a mock-up of the square already built/etc yet the content comes with no scenario's or anything of the like? Why create semi cool content and dish it out like this when it could have been part of a larger expansion WITH REAL SUBSTANCE!

One doesn't rule out the other :)

We started out with 28 flatrides and last friday we reached the milestone of 40 flatrides. All for FREE :D (Not even counting coasters and features)

This DLC might not be your cup of tea, but please don't forget we already had a lot of rides and coasters. And im pretty sure we will have more (paid?) updates which will contain rides as well :)

Can´t agree more with OP. And even though there are people who think that having rides separeted by cars, I agree it should be one ride where we can choose car types. Just like we are used to do from previous RCT titles. Already now, I sometime feel like the list of rides/scenery is too cluttered and it can get only worse. Not mentioning how long it sometimes take to load the list.

Got to agree. I never read what was included and bought all the DLC in one go. Spent a while trying to find the DLC as could only find the cars and sections to build the cars, then after reading what was included very disappointing. As stated it wasn't about the money, it was about the content. I can see only using the few effects included. I prob like so many where expecting to find full building sets, sounds and characters. Disappointed with the release and will be wary of future DLC.

You can't blame the game/developers for your own wrongdoing.

So you think buying the DLC is wrong? He's not blaming frontier, and hes certainly not asking for a refund. He just stated how he felt about the fact that he bought without reading, and he said he wont be making that mistake again in his last sentence ;)

Yes he does, but If you don't check what you buy you should not be disappointed.

are you telling me that in your entire life, you never regretted buying something?

if you were a salesperson and you sold me something but it broke or was not as great as I hope when I returned home, and I tried to return it but you said too bad you should have done better research, you would lose repeat customers

Yes, I did, and I kept that for myself because I was the one who didn't thought it over well enough.

Your example doesn't count as there still are warranty laws.

there still are warranty laws.

they are quite loose for games (look at rctw lol)

I dont mean to call PC broken though, it certainly is not broken. PC is great, frontier is great, the community is great. I just hope they can make some organization improvements for a lot of things, and UI or QoL improvements :)

Sharing his dissapointment is only for good. Sharing opinion about these DLC is important, I hope devs will listen to it actually. It seems most people is dissapointed and do not want this kind of DLC.

Probably only most of the people here on the forum and that's not the majority.

I would say at least 50% of people have not shared their opinion, so yea youre right. but frontier will see how well they sell and how the items were used. I dont see this DLC as a big deal, it could just be a testing grounds thing. Hopefully they turn this set of 3 into one bundle though, I dont think anybody would complain. Most people would buy all 3 if they are going to buy any of them anyway

I also think the base game deserves some transparent windows

This, don't be fooled as we have with other threads where the ones who are the most vocal speak as if if they're talking for everyone who owns the game. I wouldn't even agree it's most of the people here on this forum in fact I think a considerable number are satisfied with it as it stands now. How future content is released well that's to be seen so we can't bash Frontier for that until we know more. It's not as if the DLCs were priced at $5+, then maybe argue they are incomplete and as mentioned if you know what you're buying you can't really complain you expected more for your money. Finally the workshop argument just doesn't work, all new themes in the future are highly unlikely to be free so if some can't access various blueprints then that's tough luck.

I understand some people don't mind small DLC packs, and some people prefer it. In my opinion, I don't think small DLC packs are good for the workshop. Yes I feel these current packs were light on content. Yes I understand they are licensed IPs which may or may not be a good thing. Some of the items are better or more useful than others (like the transparent window). But I do not hope for this game to have 100 small DLC packs, and would rather not spend money unless it has substantial value and content

If these current 3 packs were 1 bundle I would be a little happier. If these 3 sets contained a few more items I would be a little happier. But if they were a bundle AND offered a little more, then I might be willing to pay a little more as it would be worth it. I just want the workshop to not become a messy catalogue with 100 DLC packs to access half the blueprints. I don't mean to "speak for everybody" but I know at least a few people (not on these forums) who would agree.

Marketing wise it would be better to bundle them and offer them for a discount. I can see that being better (from a salesperspective).

But this is all part of the marketing deals they make and future development, so discussing the content/amount of the DLC is also fair, no problem there. But they won't adjust tactics.

Like Breezer said, they will look at the sales numbers and say: "yeah, that was a good deal". The majority of gamers that don't care or look in forums will still buy these DLC's giving the publisher a reason to continue this way.

I don't think this is the way either., don't get me wrong. I don't want to keep spending money on a game which I already bought for a big price (hence why for instance I used to play LOTRO instead of WoW).

But they won't change it either I believe as it is becoming normal and that's all because people still keep buying this (because they want to keep up and not fall behind.

I have bought all 3 and i fell slightly ripped off.

Why are they not recolorable first and formost. The way they separated the car is super lazy too. Also you should be allowed to place dlc blueprint but simply without the items showing up. Not to mentions a sims 4 type 10$ pack about gokart is much better marketing (sims 4 dlc is a huge upgrade to sims 3 with stuff pack(10$) game pack (20$) and expension (30$))

Also why do the game still feel incomplete 1 year after release.
  • vfx still not affected by light (look ridiculous at night)
  • still no waterfall
  • No wether
  • No light obstrutive item or using less terrain to get pure darkness
  • still no water volume
  • the display sequencer is just broken (do not let me star on this, it's an insult to their reputation made with rct fireworks)

I love what frontier did fix and add for free but there's still some glaring problems.

Also I could use a black none reflective wall (like star wall) and a small dot of light (like strip light but a dot). Some more small item and chair and table.

If this is the level and price of Dlc's, i see why they don't want to release modding. Nobody would buy the frontiers stuff.
