Official Review - https://www.destructoid.com/experience-a-blast-to-the-past-with-new-planet-coaster-dlc-450970.phtml
The new DLC kits feel incomplete. If these kits were the only scenery we had, they would not be able to build anything. If somebody were to try and build something using ONLY the new DLC kits, they would be very very limited with what we could do with them. This means they have very little value, outside of a few specific pieces.
If the DLC offered a little more, like full building sets, entertainers, or sound effects, then I would feel like they would be worth buying. My problem is not about the price, its about the size/amount of content in each kit. Even if you took the 3 kits and combined them for a total of $10 it would still feel incomplete. I get that we are paying for the "license" and the right to display these images in our parks, but if we ignore the licensing, what do these packs really contain?
- 3 new go-kart cars (these really should be one ride with a variety of car types to choose from, not 3 separate rides :S)
- Some cool special effects (flames, explosions, green smoke)
- A couple transparent windows
- car pieces
- no entertainers or sound effects
those are the biggest things most people are using, and its the Window that scares me the most. I have already seen people using the Window in there parks, as a very common item. That means that even though people might not be using the Licensed items, I still need he DLC to visit any parks that have a window in them... but which of the 3 DLCs would I need? Theres 2 with a window, so I guess I would have to buy both for that ONE single item.
Please understand, that my entire complaint is not about money, but about organization. This style of DLC will shred the workshop into two groups of players (DLC vs Non-DLC) and its not a big deal right now, not yet, but what happens when we have 100 scenery packs as DLC and also a few larger gameplay DLCs?
I dont know Frontiers game plan, but I imagine they will add similar things to PC as they did with RCT3 (soaked, wild, etc) and a lot of people are still hoping for a larger gameplay DLC. I just don't like the small scenery packs of 20 items. Small microtransaction based DLC looks great at first (oh its only $2) but what happens when we have 100 microtransaction DLCs. Microtransactions will cause the workshop to become a catalogue of shopping items. How many scenery pieces need to be a DLC?
Please Frontier, keep add-ons large to prevent the workshop from becoming fragmented. In a year or two from now, new players will find it very frustrating to download from the workshop if they are constantly asked to "buy DLC inorder to access blueprints" it would be much better having large expansions like the original RCT games
Two expansions was more than enough for RCT3 and once you started getting into UGC or Mods, it quickly became very annoying to make sure you had all the correct DLC add-ons to make a park load. Please dont overload PC with microtransactions, it will lower the quality of our overall experience, it will detour many people away, and makes it so only a select few have "access to all features"... I am a game collector and I like having my games complete, but microtransaction based add-ons have very little value
Microtransactions are not of the high quality standard that I expect for Planet Coaster, DLC should not be priced under $10 otherwise it will not be worth the content being sold. These few scenery pieces offer little customization or creativity compared to what an actual scenery set should contain. I would rather pay $10 for a set of 100 scenery objects, instead of $2 for 20 scenery objects, otherwise I will be annoyed when I cant access a blueprint because there is one silly item in it that I have no need for. If I had a choice between buying a full expansion at a price of $45 vs buying 10 DLC packs at $5, i would think that the full expansion at $45 would have a much higher quality to it. If a DLC costs $15 it should be almost equal to 1/3 of the original game IMO
