Midnight Black (Friday) paintjobs now available

Popped my Arx buying cherry on this. Had been planning it for some months. Probably won't buy more for another year, unless FDev does something with a free update that makes me really appreciate them. Mostly I'm fine with Arx. Even though the weekly free Arx is tiny amount when measured in real money, it allows me to occasionally get some free cosmetics I wouldn't otherwise bother with.

The only paintjobs that might have tempted me this year were the Black Friday fighters; but the Scotsman in me has balked at handing over the same number of ARX for a fighter skin as for the skin of the Corvette that carries it.

Yeah I found that a bit odd that they're the same full fat price as for the main ships. Unless you pilot the fighter yourself, you'll never really see the paint, especially if it's matte black, and because it tends to be several km away fighting other ships. Even struggle to see them when flying in formation. I bought a few paint packs for the SRV (including MNB last year), but the fighters would have to come down in price by quite a margin to tempt me. Until then, I'm happy to just apply colours to weapons/trails (helps in a busy combat zone actually).

A reminder again Expire date of the paint job offer Was posted in the Email you only have till 6th December to choose...

The new paints are not part of the black friday sale...

Well, i'm still considering the Midnight Black and Stygian paints, but in the mean time i got me Celeste and Eden
Have to say that i like more Eden. Celeste seems a bit pretentious, but that might work on an Imperial Vessel.

Just checked the "STORE" and can't see any deals really, still too expensive. I'll stick with my good old christmas tree bobble head.

Yeah comparing FDev with SCS is almost a bit cruel - I consider the latter as the CDPR of the simworld.

Their DLC and cosmetics is of consistent quality, content is meaty (hence price is more than justified) and they even go back to older parts of the game to bring it up to the quality of newer content, for free.

They also keep players in the loop of what's in the pipeline, and quality control is never something I had to even think about (which is what you want really!).

I don't want to rip too much into FDev as Elite is still an amazing game and I enjoy it a lot obviously, I agree it could be better in terms of bugs but I've learned to live with many of them for now.

So I still get enjoyment out of paid content (in the form of skins only unfortunately for some time now) but when I compare its pricing to other games' offerings, I do ask myself sometimes what am I doing, but it passed quickly when I realise the money I spend is really peanuts in the great scheme of things and it does give me enjoyment, and that's what matters.

SCS are the cdpr of the simulator world. At the same time I don’t think it’s that hard. Keeping a minimum of industry standards and not being rude is all it takes.. do that for a while and you get known as the chosen one apparently because all the competition drops the ball.

Thinking about the truck simulators brings home the beauty of elite. If you start there thinking about elite it’s fantastic and every feature has its place and flying up to a planet is just as wonderous as the first time. Personally I get slack and forget this too often...

Because of issues in the greater ecosystem. Frontier don’t care about elite enough to at the same time claim it’s a service game. They don’t even have their heart in the sale (either that or the arx store is so bad Frontiers standaed effort is even more invisible because you can’t see it). Their marketing doesn’t correct false hopes and creates hype that will never ever match expectations of the released features, and of course white knights holding all of the above with much more glory than it is. So much junk.

But as a truck simulator in space it’s amazing. I guess the fools on us at this point :)
