Mile Wide Inch Deep - Not a Complete Experience. Not a complete game

I want to make my position clear; there is not enough depth in Elite Dangerous to make it a worthwhile experience. It is a great technical implementation devoid of strategy and mostly lacking in tactics (It has the tactics of a 1980's console game at best).. After a few days I had enough, it is a time sink and that is it. I will not be paying for new content, content to fill in the gaping holes that is this computer program.

This game overall to me, is missing the danger element. I don't like the SOLO and OPEN options with the ability to switch. I would currently give this game a negative review. It is a let down in my opinion, ranging from overall gameplay to how the company handled the "billion credit" issue. Truly sad to me. I will still give it time to see if it can get better, but already I am playing other games more than Elite Dangerous.

Well guys, sorry to see you go and I'm sorry that ED didn't meet your expectations. On a happier note, however, I'm having great fun in the game and I want to take this opportunity to thank you both for contributing your hard earned cash to my enjoyment. Bye then... missing you already... have to get back to the game now. *waves*.

I freely admit i've cut down my game time to a couple of hours a week now, partly due to lack of content (people and stations in unexplored systems? humanity spread all over the milky way? No other races? Since when are we the only form of life in the whole galaxy?), partly due to real life matters. I also agree there needs to be a lot more in the game to do, that said, i've paid for the extra content, just have to see what they add into the game in the future.

I find the game a real grind at the moment tbh, and unlike the comment above, would prefer some more actual content to the game which i'm happy to wait for. Some are clearly easily pleased, me, not so much. Hoping some of the upgrades planned for the near future will actually work and be included. As a multiplayer game to involve your friends with, it clearly isn't. Never managed to get the whole of our group into one instance yet. Now they've gotten bored and drifted away to other games and i don't blame them. This 80's style of original Elite doesn't work in the 21st century and needs addressing quickly before the game sinks without trace.

The actual issue i have with FD though is their customer service, or real lack of it, the constant moving of goal posts regarding issues in game, the non arrival of in game items, digital and physical, constant excuses...drives me up the wall. Let's hope it improves.

I for one am still completely addicted, and will need to cut down on Elite Dangerous if only for the good of my marriage! Consider that many computer games, especially story based first person shooter games only have a lifespan of 20 hours, and they cost just as much money as Elite Dangerous. Worth every cent.

Are you saying the hundreds of hours I've played were wasted and I shouldn't have enjoyed them at all?

That's a shame, because up until now I thought Elite was great. Not everyone wants Vodka in their cola I suppose.

Since when are we the only form of life in the whole galaxy?).

Two words.

Fermi. Paradox.

1200 years from now isn't long at all in galactic civilisation terms. If we did spread out to cover much of the galaxy in this time, it doesn't mean that we should encounter a) any sentient life or b) another space faring civilisation. Humanity could spread out to cover much of the galaxy in a million years, then go extinct and a few million years later another race could be exploring the galaxy wondering where the hell everyone else is.

The available evidence on extra-terrestrial life does not support there being any other space faring races near us in the milky way. Where the Thargoids will come from in anyone's guess, but probably not near anywhere we call home.

The biggest mistake FD have made with this game so far is to release it as a retail version.

They did it too fast, it's wasn't ready, it still isn't ready and it's done nothing positive for them.

They should have released it as early access in December at a cut price, not this £40 beta!

The game has some good points don't get me wrong. But at the moment. The bad outweighs the good for me.

As an early access game they could have made their excuses, as a full release this has too many issues to be called a retail version.

If you want to be taken seriously, make your post worth reading when you make such claims. Clicking on your thread I expected to have something to read, not just "your game is shallow, I'm out". You don't need a whole thread just to say this.

Aside from all the positive reviews, positive commentary all over the place and other endorsements, I agree the release of this game has done nothing positive for FD. Apart from all the positive stuff.

Fanboys are a source of never ending irony. They do nothing but make people hate the game they champion.

Elite is a proof of concept demo currently. You have to be really far gone to pretend it's anything close to an actual game.

Apart from all the positive stuff.

Potential, hopes and dreams etc. Getting all too common in the gaming industry to pull this crap imo. Months will have passed after release before you can even form a group, this is kind of becoming a joke.

Obviously the game is indeed lacking some depth but as many before have said and will say afterwards, that depth will come over time as the game expands.

As for more content, I'm pretty sure I havent seen anywhere saying you will have to pay for it? You've already paid for the game, might as well enjoy the free extra content as and when it arrives.

There should just be one mega-thread for this and you have to read every post from page 1 every time you want to add your own spurious comment to it. Extra demerits for the use of 'mile wide, inch depth' or variation thereof.

Haha, funny guy.

The metacritic scores are faked by all The fan boys spammin 10s with fake accounts and all the reviews are done by people that loved the original so kind of bias is say.

If the game didn't have so many problems, then there wouldn't be such a large increase of negative threads on the forum since "release" in December.

We're talking the longevity of the game here, not reviews of people that have played it for a week or 2.

I've just posted facts. FD have received a huge amount of positive press for ED. End of.

They do nothing but make people hate the game they champion.
And referring to people who disagree with your comments as "fanboys" gives your point of view zero credibility.

Just because you say so, doesn't make it so.

When? What kind of depth? So far the only answers we've gotten are "Soon(tm)" and "stuff" respectively. Sorry but that's not enough to go by when they they're so bad at meeting their promises that they've stopped making promises. Doesn't instil confidence in their ability to bring us the game they told us we'd get in december.
Normally I play a lot of early access games, and I only give money to the ones I've thoroughly researched and feel are worthwhile investments that won't bite me down the line for trusting them to meet their lofty goals. Elite was a game I couldn't even sample without buying, so I decided instead to wait until launch to get the finished product and not have that worry over my shoulders.
What I got instead was an early beta build masquerading as a full finished product, specifically the thing I was trying to avoid, and normally would have if it were correctly labelled as an early access title. So, frankly, using the safety net of "it's not done yet" is not a valid counter when the game version says 1.0
2 months later and I'm still waiting for even the slim glimmer of hope that the game might have some of the features that were promised before launch, let alone all of them. Instead we're getting the promise (sorry, no promises, a vague notion) of a small amount of gravel in our sandbox while they stonewall us whenever we ask about the actual sand.
I'm not even going to get into the paid expansions right now.

How can you even find it within yourself to spout such nonsense? All of the scores are fake and all of the reviews are faked too?

Is this part of the "oh, I don't like the result so I'm calling it cheating" gameplay?

I freely admit i've cut down my game time...

So true, I am holding out hope that they can get to work and give us something to be proud of. It is just a frame work at the moment.

Welcome to the internet. There will always be moaners, there will always be fanboys, there will always be fools, etc. And reviews are simply opinions. Just because one person likes, doesn't mean other will, and vice versa.

Main thing it comes down to is: Are you enjoying playing the game?

If yes: Good, enjoy and keep playing.
If no: Stop playing. Perhaps check back later to see if better.

What i find most funny is people who say they don't like the game and hang around telling everyone how bad it is, like they are on some sort of holy crusade to let the world know just how bad it is. Personally, i'd have better things to do with my life than that... but there again, guess some people just don't have their own lives to live.
