Military Rank Progression - fewer missions but exponentially harder?

So, I had a couple of hours to play after work, currently:

Federation Rank : Lieutenant 82%

After 3 hours of mostly BOOM DATA missions and Donations for FED factions I'm now thrilled to be:

Federation Rank : Lieutenant 85%

Suggestion:
Military Rank to be disconnected from mission board and reputation completely. Go back to something closer to the Frontier Elite:2 model.

Fewer missions. Each one increasingly hard and challenging. The one for Rear Admiral should really involve you fighting a war single-handed. It should be an increasing challenge, not a right-of-grind?

e.g.
Recruit
--- Courier Mission
Cadet
--- Courier Mission (Hostile Ships)
Midshipman
--- Multi-Waypoint Courier (Hostile Ships)
Petty Officer
--- Support CZ - 5 Ship Kill
Chief Petty Officer
--- Support CZ - 20 Ship Kill
Warrant Officer
--- Support CZ - 100 Ship Kill
Ensign
--- Base Attack (alt. for non-Horizons players)
Lieutenant
--- Base Attack (+++)
Lieutenant Commander
--- Assassinate Rival Faction Rank (Illegal, you'll permanently burn bridges with other side)
Post Commander
--- Locate Crashed Ship (far outside inhabited zone, clear invaders)
Post Captain
--- Attack on Military Outpost in alt Faction system, clear defenders
Rear Admiral
--- Attack on Capital Ship, survive until re-inforcements arrive.

That probably doesn't even sound challenging enough, but point being to increase Military Rank... I kinda want to be doing increasingly difficult Military things? Snooping? Assassinating? Reconnaissance? Tilting the balance in conflicts?

There are plans in the works for an overhaul of the Naval Progression system.

This isn't a bad idea however for thing to do in regards to Naval Progression. You might get more attention if you posted in Suggestion and Feedback subboard.

I've been hoping something like this for a long time. Rank advancement by hauling various cargoes just doesn't feel right, at least after couple first ranks. Later ranks could be so difficult that they actually need wings to complete them. After all, you're supposed to be a military leader by that time.

If we'll ever get to fight with aliens, that could be good point to scrap previous military organizations and ranks and form human defense fleet consisting from pilots of all factions with new military ranks.

Hum, I don't think the last ones are good idea. Taking on a capital ships alone? Huh... How about no? A good hight ranked would be against theses kinds of suicide mission.
No, stuff more like special instance where there is ally forming on you helping you to destroy others ships/a base/etc.

Don't forget it is supposed to be a cold war between the Empire and The Federation. :p

Yeah, I was looking for that subboard and I couldn't find it? Just looked again and found out it was in the Bug-Reporting hierarchy of subboards.

Could a kind mod move it in there perhaps?

Moonlord: That would be awesome. Suspect an 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' situation between Fed/Empire when they appear.

KuroNyra: Yeah, I've gone a bit too Arnold Schwarzenegger in that list. :p Maybe the photography missions from Frontier could make a return?

That's about right, depending on the factions you choose. If you ran missions for non-fed factions you received ZERO rank progression. The last rank to rear-admiral it works out to 4 data delivery missions per 1%. 400 missions for the last rank. It's a soul crushing, agonizing, weeping at the keyboard, binge drinking, week long exploration in masochism. To say that it sucked is like saying being tied to a stake and burned alive is 'restricting' and 'warm'.

TUN gives best returns on time, BTW. Lots of Fed aligned factions with missions to a lot of one-hop systems.

And yes, the system needs a complete overhaul. I fail to see how being a delivery boy qualifies me for naval rank, even if it's in the auxiliary navy. And then, after doing HUNDREDS of deliveries, my reward is a military grade warship ? But hey, I didn't write the song, I just did the dance ( and got paid ).
