Ships Minig Cutter builds

I am currently mining in an engineered Anaconda but would like to move up to a Cutter. I'm looking for some examples of Cutter mining Builds. Thanks.

IMO there are several variations of a cutter mining build. I use the same cutter and modify it based on my mining activities.

I am currently in deep space. Its current purpose is laser mining tritium for fleet carrier.
  • I don't change the core modules based on activities. Just the optional and hardpoints.
  • Extra collector limpet controllers at the cost of cargo space to speed things up.
  • 5A Prospect limpet ctlr instead of 3A to speed things up. Finding next asteroid with tritium faster. Its a slow process, everything helps.
  • Remember I'm delivering directly to my FC, so no need for large cargo capacity or fuel scoop.
  • The multicanons and pulse wave analyzer currently serve no purpose. They are there for other mining activities.
Cutter Mining Ship

These minor improvements I will make when I return to human space:
1) Power Plant - change experimental effect from Double Braced to Thermal Spread. Improves heat efficiency.
2) Shield boosters - change both from Thermal to Resistance Aumented w/ Super capacitors.
3) Shield Boosters - add one or two additional boosters with Heavy Duty w/ Super Capacitors.

My issue is cargo space. My mining Conda has 256 tons of Cargo space. I haven't been able to come close to that with the Cutter mining builds I have done on Coriolis. The Cutter has one less slot. Maybe if a fellow CDR could explain how the "hybrid: mining limpet controllers work I could free up more slots for storing what I mine. Thanks in advance for any help I get.

Mine, for laser mining.
512t 13 collectors 4 Prospectors 4 x 2D mining lasers.
The multi limpet controllers have a variety of limpet modes which can be set using fire groups to whichever you prefer them to be, dont use these for prospecting only collecting, hacking or whatever, they are less than optimal as a prospector. You can only fit one of the multi limpet controllers, mine above has 1 class 3 multi and 3 5a collectors, in a pristine metal ring close to a high or has res (15-20km) I can fill 512t in around an hour using between 325-350 limpets.

Both size 8s are normaly cargo if you want a 1 hour in the ring mining build...
Yes the cutter has 2 Size 8s not just 1.. 256 X2 = 512 tons of storage...

Weapon focus the PD...
Size 6 shield to bounce off rocks to use litho braking, not size 8 ...

@CMDR Is Fat build is better for normal laser mining than mine.

For tritium mining my cutter only holds 320t which is fine because after collecting 200 tritum I'm sick of mining (its slow). Swapping the shield into the size 6 slot is a better idea though for getting the 512t capacity.

The extra limpet controller in the size 3 slot is a good idea too (I wasted it on the docking computer) but I find the quantity of collector limpets I'm using for tritium is fine, they keep up okay with the lasers. Again, because I'm collecting tritium and not much else.

The reason why I'm blathering about all this is because if you have a carrier its a great idea to keep optional modules on your carrier for swapping out based on the specific mining activity you want to do. A quick re-arrangement and voila! I made this mistake and when I was +25K Ly away I had to strip modules from my smaller python mining ship that I luckily had on board my carrier to tweek my cutter better at tritium mining.

One other interesting point. I can't discard the Detailed Surface Scanner for something else. Even though I already scanned the rings on a previous trip (maybe with my exploration ship, whatever) when you arrive with the mining ship sometimes the hotspots don't appear, but if I have the DSS they do. Sometimes I even have to shoot a DSS probe to get them to show up.

Extra for bubble mining
Dont use your mining ship as cargo transport to sell.
Have a T9 or another cutter ship at a local station as the transport...
Swap from miner to cargo transport to sell.. then swap back to miner than go back into the ring...

Tritium mining should be SSD mining. Not laser. Gets much more ton/hour
Thx, I'll try that. From somewhere I got the idea laser mining was better, but never actually tried alternatives. Holy Geez laser mining tritium in batches of 1000 is tedious.

Not in EDO 4.0... PWA was rebuilt in 4.0 PWA only works for Core mining as it enables core mining only mode after you leave the ring entry point...

It is for EDO user...

This is my dedicated Mining Cutter, here in HazRez Outfit, without DSS. Runs very cold, idles at 14%.
How have you managed to get by without the DSS?

I just tried again multiple times. Scanned the ringed planet with exploration ship, then go get my cutter mining ship. The hotspots on rings don't show up if I don't have a DSS installed. Combat Mode / Analysis Mode makes no difference. As soon as I put the DSS back in and return to the same ringed planet the hotspots show up.

Interesting to note that when I was in my carrier and switched to mining ship the hotspot showed up in Navigation. But as soon as I entered supercruise it disappears from Navigation. Even If I selected it as a destination. And I lose it as a destination.

This Cutter is a HazRes Miner: Don‘t go for hotspots, but for Resource Extraction Sites, where you do not need a DSS to find the sites. HazRes Mining is much more profitable. Stay about 15 km way of the site marker and circle around mining asteroids. Sometimes pirates will show up; you can fight or fly away, or - with this cold cutter - stop mining for a while and the pirates won‘t notice you and fly away.

Haz rez, you dont need a hotspot just the rez, much higher output, more fragments plus larger % per fragment, anywhere within 20km of any kind of res will get you higher output, but the output will be higher at a haz than high than res.

Edit - Ninja skills up there.

I used your build as a model. I used a size 6 Prismatic shield engineered to enhanced low power grade 5 with hicap. I also placed a size 6A fuel scoop on my carrier that I can swap out with another module if I want to travel in this mining ship. I kept a DSS on the Cutter also. I can always leave it on the carrier if need be.
Thanks to everybody for their help.
