Newcomer / Intro Mining, highly time consuming, low reward?

I haven't seen any threads about this so maybe I'm doing it wrong. I finally saved money for a nice cargo bay, laser and refinery. I went to a nice little belt and found gallite, indite, and other nice mats. Then when I stored them in my cargo hold I found them to be low percentages of the actual material. Gathering approximately 10 fragments to make 1 Indite? Very time consuming. Is this because my refinery is small? Or is mining really this time consuming for 1 of the resource? Not happy :/

Refinery size has nothing to do with it...as long as you have at least 3bins so you don't have to keep dumping. Try and find metallic areas instead of metal rich. Preferably pristine reserves. Some chunks can be upto 60% in which case you only need two to make a ton. I found it quite relaxing but yes its time consuming and unless you stick to the precious metals not really worth it.

Ah very nice. I don't mind a little work but yea the 10-15% was getting old. Thanks I will look around for richer resources then.

Major reserves are where you will find the next largest percentages but stay clear of the common, low and depleted reserves in my opinion.

Planetary rings have lots of rocks to mine and you can drop out of supercruise anywhere in them instead of sticking to the Resource Extraction Sites (RES) if you don't want to get bothered by the pirates. Asteroid belts have fewer larger rocks and is quite easy to get disorientated.

Be sure to keep some guns if you need to fight your way back to the refinery with your cargo hold full of palladium!

I quite enjoyed mining and would probably go back to it if I can find the right conditions.

Have fun!

It's just ignored by the Development Team

It's the biggest load of crap in the game... just go and Bounty Hunt, Explore or Trade

1.3 is being touted as "Power Play" so again mining will go to the back burner.... shame really... one of the core "routes" is just brushed under the carpet

read through the pages and pages of patch notes and Mining hardly gets a mention... less than 1% of "fixes" has anything to do with it ... and it's not because "nothing to fix"

I found mining to be quite nice and calming. I went out and looked for some unexplored systems which were within jump range of an extraction system and had some metallic asteroid belts. (Scanning those pesky zero credit asteroid belts can payoff sometimes ;) )

Mining? I'd be hard-pressed to believe that it's possible to make more than ~300k - 500k per hour, and that's with a Type 7 or something similar.

Let me see if I remember my statistics correctly: Trade: 20M... Bounty Hunting: 5M... Exploration: 4M... Mining... 8k. :)

But not to worry, changes are in the works:

Mining isn't that bad and I used to find it quite relaxing but yes until there is some effort put in to improve it I wont be going back now I own larger ships so can make good money from bounties (since the buff) and trade. Love to do it again and hope the improvement come soon...
