Mining in a belt

I did find a thread from 2016 on this but was wandering if anyone has some fresh info from 3.0.

For some inexplicable reason my comp breaks down almost every time I enter a ring - but not a belt! So I was wondering if the distance between rocks in a belt is the only difference from rings or are there others, like quality and quantity in an asteroid?

Belts - I hardly visit cos there are about 10 asteroids max.

Rings there are oodles!

I think your machine crashing may be down to the level of oodles that a ring can generate.

try dropping all graphics stuff to lowest level and slowly bring it up just incase it is gfx related crashes...

Belt clusters have the advantage that the same asteroids will be in the cluster when you return. So mining can be predictable for missions.

However, you won't find painite, platinum or diamonds in a belt cluster.

I stopped crashing in rings & RES after changing to borderless windowed from fullscreen.
Check if it works for you as well. I went through reinstalling the game, all my drivers, changed hard drives and all that jazz and was going nuts because nothing seemed to help.

Thank you, very useful to know.

Tiili, I did that and a lot of other things, nothing worked. Certain updates make this issue worse, others better but I can't remember when was the last time I really enjoyed flying into a ring. Which is a problem especially during exploration when I just want to do some asteroid flying for fun, but can't.

There has been no change to this, so my almanac from late 2016 should still be a good guide.

I find Palladium and platinum in Major belts. Pristine will prolly yield painite and even more platinum.

I know of just one single Platinum belt asteroid among over 600. Are you sure you are talking about belts rather than rings? If so do you know the exact location of the Platinum ones?

At least some of the Palladium-rich ones you mapped for the Colonia CG a couple of years ago had Platinum in them - I used to return from cycling around those with ~100t of Palladium and ~20t of Platinum.

I don't care about the chaff. I'm talking about the major component. The one you visit an asteroid for in the first place.

You could try running a memtest for one night and see if your RAM is faulty. I remember not being able to install The Witcher 2 but being able to play my other games despite my RAM being ... computer magic!
