Mining Painite

People enjoy doing this? No joke I got bored with it after achieving 0.5T of Painite in 2 hours. Decided to run to Hutton Orbital with a bunch of internal reports because it's more fun. I'm 10 minutes out.

So... what are the changes to mining coming in the next update? Anybody not under NDA know what Frontier are planning?

If you gathered 0.5t of Painite in two hours, you're doing something wrong. That means that even if something changes in how mining works, it won't help you. :)

Find a metallic ring with pristine reserves (Either google up the places in the bubble, or simply fly beyond the borders of inhabited space). Pack a prospector, too. It makes the yields better.

I find mining to be quite a relaxing hobby. Usually do it once in a while just to chill out. After an hour or hour and a half, I'm able to fill a Cutter with tens of tonnes of Painite, Palladium and Platinum.

Must have done something else wrong. No idea what. Anyway I mined 500T for the initial invite - just random rubbish at Saturn. Almost lost the will to live, then I get the second "quest". Seriously considered jumping out of this here 3rd floor window.

Try JURA system, Jura 7 inner ring, mined there for very long time with good Paintine results. ( Imperial )
or DELKAR, Delkar 7 inner ring. ( Federal ) both pristine and metalic rings.
Good luck CMDR !

Except then you have to keep mining with 20t of pirate bait in your hold.

Yes, but I wasn't in a RES so pirates weren't spawning. Besides, my Python is a match for most NPCs even when outfitted for mining.

Once you jump into the hi rez site fly about 30 or so clicks away from the site....pirates are too lazy to fly out that far and leave you alone

Or you can just crash into the ring anywhere, no need to drop into a RES. You might get a pirate in the instance initially, but once you see them off no new ones will spawn like they do in a RES.

i was actually referring to if you finished before the 500 tons was done, I would consider it likely you would need to sell other ore to make room to reach the 500, or perhaps needing to get more limpets, then you have to return to somewhere....

I am not much of a miner, but every time I drop from supercruise while mining it comes with an obligatory pirate who scans (and even in some cases attacked me for limpets) I wasn't even close to a res. (other side of planet)

I might be misunderstanding you, but why do you need to make room? You can just space everything that's not Painite as you only need to mine 500 tons of ore for the engineer requirement, you don't need to sell it or anything. I did have to go and get more limpets with Painite in my hold, but that wasn't a problem to me either. I don't really find NPCs in this game to be much threat under any circumstances to be honest.

Besides, as long as you have even one ton of Painite before hitting 500, you're going to have the same problem. Pirates will attack you for carrying one ton of anything.

ah...I don't throw good stuff away, I sell it.

Probably should have thought of that though...on last trip to make 500, I got a ridiculous amount like 75tons or something, upon returning to port, I accidentally sold it, so I had to go back....and RNG was not as friendly that time.
I just looked, I have mined 2443 tons, that was the original 500, the painite "accident" and then the bromellite for the other one. I remember as soon as i had the exact amount of painite I quit, but when doing Bill i stayed til I had used all my limpets (not that many left).

Yep, I like mining. My last haul was quite impressive - over 200 tons of Platinum and Painite and nearly another 100 tons of Palladium.

And Selene, the Armor Engineer does have something to do with mining... armor is made of metal after all...

Oh yeah, forgot to point that out earlier, Selene's story is mining related, and she only makes mods for miners (that's why you have to mine stuff for her), and armor is useful for miners, as you may have to take some rounds from the pirates while running out of rings, and also need a stronger hull for all the asteroid nudging that goes on when mining.

Wait, what? Is Selene the mining Engineer? The one who can do the lightweight armour?

I spent last week flying a mining T9 trying to fill it to get to 500 tons. I gave up in the end because it was a bit repetitive.

Turns out I've already unlocked Selene.

Damn.

Just curious why the term "ton" keeps being used. How is it measured in a gravity free environment? Is it called a ton in the game? I thought it was referred to as a unit.

haha, if you're already dead by those 20t of painite,
i hope you don't want to mod plasmas anytime soon.
for that you need an alioth permit + 50t Bromelite

the good thing,

"Nemo" offers grade2 plasma mods ;) too

I have a couple mining questions, if you don't mine.

1. What is the maximum number of collection limpets you can have going at the same time?

I forgot the other question.
