Horizons Mining questions.

HI! I have a few question..

1: Is Metal and Metallic the same thing? I saw from videos that said to look for metallic but I see Metal Rich ( like in ROSS 667 the rings say they are Metal Rich there )
2: In the Inventory ( under Refinery ) I see arrows on the right of the elements with a percentage number.. what is that number tell us?
3: Also under Refinery when I click the arrow ( with my B button ) the element gets removed, but where does it go? I check my cargo but I do not see it there..
4: Under Materials ( again in the Inventory ) I see Carbon, Nickel, Iron etc.. Is this only good for missions that require it? Is it just better to get rid of it if I do not need it for missions or is there some real value in it?
4b: Is the Materials taking up Bin space or Cargo space?
5: Does Setting the material filters just refine the view of what you see or does it actually control what comes in to be refined? ( Meaning that if you select only "Mineral" & "Grade 1" under the list that only Minerals and Grade 1 will be stored and the rest will be discarded..)
5b: In the active filter when you select an item does it accept that item or ignore that item? Because at the moment ( be default ) I see then all deselected..

HI! I have a few question..

Technically they are the same, but metallic rings tend to give better yields. A post (don't know which one) claims Metallic rings have a Metal/Mineral ratio of 75:25, Metal Rich are 50:50, and Rocky are 25:75.

2: In the Inventory ( under Refinery ) I see arrows on the right of the elements with a percentage number.. what is that number tell us?
The % indicates how far until you've managed to refine the related fragment into a metal. Eg: 50% Silver means you're half-way to refining 1 (one) Silver.

3: Also under Refinery when I click the arrow ( with my B button ) the element gets removed, but where does it go? I check my cargo but I do not see it there..
It gets dumped into space.

4: Under Materials ( again in the Inventory ) I see Carbon, Nickel, Iron etc.. Is this only good for missions that require it? Is it just better to get rid of it if I do not need it for missions or is there some real value in it?
Those materials are used for Synthesis. Look under your synthesis sub-tab.

4b: Is the Materials taking up Bin space or Cargo space?
No; but there is a limited amount of material space, currently it's 600 1,000 (data storage has been set to 500).

5: Does Setting the material filters just refine the view of what you see or does it actually control what comes in to be refined? ( Meaning that if you select only "Mineral" & "Grade 1" under the list that only Minerals and Grade 1 will be stored and the rest will be discarded..)
Just refines what you see.

5b: In the active filter when you select an item does it accept that item or ignore that item? Because at the moment ( be default ) I see then all deselected..
An item with a "filled in" box beside it means "I want to see this."

Yes don't click that little arrow unless you want to empty the bin! The refinery will automatically add a tonne of whatever was in the bin when it reaches 100%.

If you have the internals for it, I can recommend getting at least a controller for prospector drones. It increases the yield of rocks significantly. Collector drones are more nice-to-have but will speed up scooping mats significantly.

HI! Thanks, so Synthesis means it can build the some extra cool stuff or enhanced stuff for you ship..

also how do we tell what RIng A or B is on a ringed planet? ( its A the outer ring or the inner ring? )

Actually I was out mining and it would not collect any more.. so I was wondering what to do.. I see now that I should have just emptied the lower value items and keep the higher ones in order to continue mining, oh well, now I know :)

Correct, synthesis allows you to craft a few different things, such as SRV fuel, weapon ammo or a one time boost to your next FSD jump (IIRC).
E.G.: if your Multi-Cannon's are depleted, instead of running back to base to restock, you can fire off a synthesis and restock one of the multi-cannon's.
Additionally, there are three different levels: Basic, Standard and Premium. Each level grants a boost, such as range, damage, fuel efficiency etc. So in the case of restocking your multi-cannon ammo, you can select to restock using Premium which will grant you a 30% damage increase.

also how do we tell what RIng A or B is on a ringed planet? ( its A the outer ring or the inner ring? )
Ring A is the inner ring.

Also look for Pristine reserves. These give higher percentage for each mining chunk considerably increasing your earning potential. Best earning areas are currently Pristine Metallic rings...and concentrate on the large value commodities if you want to make good money.

Is there a list somewhere of all the minerals and metals and there worth? like a site or something? I found one but I think its out of date http://elite-dangerous.frontierspace.co.uk/mining/

I saw another one that was much more updated and had many many more stuff but I just cannot find it.. :(

There's also https://eddb.io/ which I haven't used yet, but might answer your needs. Also, I believe the galactic average value of commodities you have in your cargo hold is displayed in the inventory tab.

Mineral and metal values are constantly fluctuating so there's no fixed list per say, you may find a list that shows you which items are cheapest and which more expensive.. but you can use tools like https://eddb.io or http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/ to find places that are buying mineral/metals at the highest prices.

Also I knoticed in some vidoes that some had multiple drones out collecting ores, but I only seem to be able to launch our 1 at a time.. have they changed this?

thanks I will check this out :)

The maximum number of limpets you can launch at once depends on the class and / or the rating of the limpet controller module.

Also, you can equip mutiple limpet controller modules and use them all at the same time -- I didn't think of that until I saw it done on someone else's build.

hmmm that makes me wonder if multiple refineries can be fitted too. having multiple bins can be surely helpfull

thank you very much. I did not know that these mods were stack-able :)

I am actually starting to enjoy mining now.. :)
