Newcomer / Intro Mining this particular element is killing me

For the past four nights I have spent many hours looking for Painite. No luck with this one. Trying to unlock a Engineer. I have been to Frey, 58 Epsilon Herculis, and countless planets with metal rings. Anyone out there have any luck....please tell me where....

Go to eddb.io and click on the BODIES link. In the pull-down menus select Ring Type: Metallic, Reserve Type: Pristine, enter your current system location and click on "Find Bodies". The website will list ringed planets with pristine metallic reserves. Go there. Mine. Ringed planets are so much easier and more productive than asteroid fields with usually only a cursory cargo-check by NPC pirates (never enter a mining area with cargo) I usually run a 4A refinery, a single prospector, two mining lasers and two collector limpet controllers. I fly through the rocks firing prospector limpets at them as I go. When one hits Painite I turn in, fire up the lasers and let loose the (hounds) collector limpets.

As you can see, in the past entries, I have collected all that I needed in one area. Thanks for the input.

but any pristine metallic will work.

Exactly this.

I've been keeping records of the different pristine metallic rings I've mined in. 75 so far. I've noticed no differences between the different planet's rings that you don't also get from two drops in the same ring. Some days it's good, some not.

Yinyin has proved that the rings aren't entirely random, that there is a pre-existing map - at least for RES. So it is possible to get a guaranteed yield of painite, or whatever you are after.

But just dropping into a ring is essentially random. So either stick with the one convenient system, or travel around for some variety of scenery, it doesn't actually matter.
