Mirrored/Reactive Surface Composite?

I currently have Military Grade bulkheads on my Cobra. However, I have the credits to upgrade to one of the specialized composites. However, on the description it says, more or less, "gain additional protection from x at cost of vulnerability to y"

However, given that it's twice the cost of military grade, I have to ask: are the specialized bulkheads more vulnerable to whatever the "y" attack type is than military grade, or are they simply a straight upgrade but only in one category?

During beta, someone did a table measuring how many shots from weapons it took for some % of hull damage. Mirror and reactive have better protection in their categories than military by a quite lot if I remember correctly ( 20ish vs 33% or so) while still having reasonable protection against other types of damage, which was about military grade level or likely slightly lower (talking about 2-3% lower).

In other words, unless it got changed, it is an upgrade in a sense of better protection against one type.

Back in "Beta", the idea was that every level of armor added more protection, and it appeared as such in my experimentation.

My 'OPINION' of how it seemed to work:

Military added 50% armor protection.
Mirrored added 25% armor protection, and a 50% boost against laser attacks.
Reactive added 25% armor protection, and a 50% boost against ballistic attacks.

I.e. You can take more shots, but every shot you take still hurts; it just hurts less if you have the matching resistance.

(AGAIN, MY OPINION OF MY TEST RESULTS)

However, I've upgraded to Mirrored in Live, and it really seemed to be no added base armor protection, but more /RESISTANCE/ against Laser attacks, which the net gains (To me) didn't seem that beneficial.

I went back to Military grade and felt more protected. (And saved a few spacebucks)

Again, this is just my opinion of use, and it was tried on both an Eagle and a Cobra, when I have been running without armor for weeks.

I can tell you, that with both Mirrored and No Armor, if you land hard / graze the landing ramp on touch down, you'll take between 2% and 8% damage. When I went to 'Military grade', these kinds of 'Grazes' didn't even register a single % damage. Plus Military Grade seems to be more damage resistant. (I am curious how Ballistic protection would do against grazes)

It seems the 'Base Armor Increase' that I perceived in Beta with Mirrored/Composite no longer exists.

Again, these are just my opinions. Hopefully there is more factual information out there. (A 'Jane's Guide to Elite: Dangerous Ships and Weapons' would be *AWESOMELY Appreciated*.)

To me Military grade always made more sense. For the overall benefit. Since most people carry both laser and ammo weaponry.
Frankly it's better to just try to stay nimble and avoid enemy fire if at all possible. That is if you fly well.

Someone else mentioned that they would like to know if mirrored would reduce or slow down the speed at which you take on heat from the suns or stars in close proximity. If it could, you could drag interdictions into the sun and shake them off or fuel scoop faster at a closer position.

To me mirrored is better for Silent Running builds. Most players run gimballed weapons but if they do run fixed its usually lasers or railguns. The only reaon I'd ever upgrade by far.

I have a mix of millitary and mirrored armor on my ships. What i found is that millitary is more useful for PVE while mirrored is most time an advantage in PVP. Most players use laser weapons on their ships and think that if they get your shields down you are done. I kill regularly Pythons, FDL or sometimes even Condas with my Clipper even after i lost the shields after maybe only 15 seconds.

This is true, also when your shields are down you want to hit silent running to remove the enemy lock on you which means at more than 1km they arnt likely to get constant hits with non laser weapons, so they will have to use lasers to hit you, I take mirrored armour because in PvP it makes a big difference if your in a fast ship that they have trouble targeting

I've tried mirrored on my stealth build and I seemed to survive much longer in fights (PvP) than I did with military. Not done any proper testing, but it 'feels' better to me. This is based on most people using lasers and even then, fixed lasers are easier to hit a silent build then multis, generally speaking.
