Missing Class 4 weapon

So I was outfitting my Salvage Conda to finally have some teeth after running around making money unarmed. I'm trying out a different weapon loadout with weapons I haven't used before.

Right now I'm trying out a Frag Cannon array.

Since my stations even in boom don't have all the weapons avalible in all slots, I turned to our Coriolis ship builder friends just to see which weapons had a Class 4 rating.

I am shocked and surprised to learn all the conventional weaponry has Class 4 designs except for the very weapon I want to use!

All three energy weapons and two of the kinetics have Class 4 designs. The PA also comes in Class Four.

So why is the Frag Cannon not Class Four?

Torps are powerful as they are now but I'm also curious as to why there aren't larger missile racks ether. They don't need to do more damage. Just increase the number of reserves and the magazine size.

I'd like to see turreted missiles but that might just be too much.

So right now I'm not sure what I want to slap in that Class Four. Conventional wisdom says slap a PA in it. I could always just go with yet another Class 3 Frag cannon and accept the slot as wasted potential.

Or I just go back to cannons.

Any thoughts?

The lack of C4 versions of powerful weapons ironically means that ships with a lower hard point count that rely on C4 weapons (FDL, Corvette) are at a power disadvantage in the current frag/rail/AX/guardian meta. A C2 frag cannon can do higher sustained DPS than a C4 multicannon!!

Shoulder-fire a punt gun and then come back and ask that question again.

Don't know what a punt gun is?

That's right - 2 Gauge.

Considering a C4 cannon, which is mounted on a 74m long ship at the smallest, is of comparable caliber to the main battery guns of battleships built in WW2, what does needing to go shoulder-fire a 2 Gauge punt gun have to do with wanting a C4 fragcannon in a video game? I’m guessing nothing.

It does however have everything to do with having a gimballed weapon with the power to instantly destroy half the ships in the game, something my engineered dual frag Vulture is nearly capable of already with small pad ships. (And poorly flown/outfit large ships...;))

Not at a range greater than 1 km...

Does it work on wasp nests?

to be precise, a C4 cannon has the caliber of the Yamatos main cannons...
after all this time, i would expect them to come up with something in that C4 slot that counts as a frag cannon, but is not just a linear upscaled version

A c4 lance for ramming would be interesting

a C4 Mining lance would be VERY interesting

Unfortunately I seem to recall there was a CG for the bigger weapons. We didn't hit a high enough tier.... so didn't get all the glory of the big guns.

Well that sucks.

Trying a different loadout this time around. Seeker rockets because I'm big fat and slow and large thermal weapons.

Actually does pretty well... but more testing is needed. Still KIIIIINDA wishing we had more firegroup buttons.

Oh well. Limitations were apparently made to be circumvented.

I wonder if the Large Turrets were any good....

with torpedos, i have always wondered why the are put into regular hardpoints.
and even more after the T10 was released, with all those hull features that look like todays external weapon hardpoints.

It has nothing to do with wanting anything. You can want whatever you like.

What it does have more to do with are things like Balance and to a lesser degree, physics.

When you've got a gun larger than the ship it's equipped to, you have a problem.

Now that said, it might be more reasonable to have such an over-sized cannon that is actually multiple smaller cannons - so your C4 Frag cannon is actually 2 C2 cannons sharing a mount. They already do things like this with Beam lasers, so it does seem reasonable to do similar things for other weapon classes.

But... I'd much rather have C1 Plasma Repeaters first - far more useful.

Yeah I kinda have to wonder if they should just increase the class size of the Torpedos and make them like the Thermokinetic weapons.

Missiles and Railguns are class 1 and 2 while Torpedos (with an actual clip and magazine capacity if perhaps a very limited one) and PA's were class 3 and 4.

I gotta say, the NPC's really made that repeater PA a popular choice. SLF's with them also seem to be just as popular.
