Mission board RNG keeps rolling the same number

One gripe I have with these kill missions is the ridiculous quantities required all the time.

'Go destroy 30/40/50+ ships.'

Yeah, great. Like I want to tie myself to several hours of one singular RSI inducing task. Some lesser amounts would be nice as an option.

Aren't massacre missions a way to get an extra pay while you help your faction, instead of just killing ships for nothing?

Well I wouldn't be surprised that a military faction offers mostly military tasks. In my home system there are faction variations and so are missions varying. I think it's fine.

A quick explanation of the current mission system for those that do not know how it works.

The game is split into a number of different servers, when you join your chosen game mode you are assigned to one. And each server being separate, generates a fixed number of mission templates based on the current system state, and the faction in question. These templates remain on the server for 15 minutes, and anyone in that station, on that server will get the same set of templates. When a player checks the mission terminal, the mission system fills in the blanks on the template using various weighting, with details such as payout, destinations, factions, targets, rank req’s, etc. If you keep refreshing the mission terminal within that 15 minute window you are always presented with the same templates, some of the details may appear different but they are in fact the same with the random variables changed.

When people try board flipping what they are actually doing is trying to join the game on a different server with a different set of templates. If you get lucky and join a different server then you are presented with different templates, if not, you get the same templates until 15 minutes is up, or you try again and land on a different server.

For the most part the mission system works, some folks may not be entirely happy with it, but it works, and players can usually find at least one or two missions they want to do. However, sometimes sod waves the scales of law and you run into outliers where all the factors such as system state, minor factions, local systems states, reputation, align and you are presented with a bunch of near identical missions for the next 15 minute period.

For those wondering why they don't generate missions for the individual each time they check the mission term it all boils down to the resources available to Frontier. Attempting to generate missions for everyone would simply be too resource intensive given the hardware and budget they have available.

You can do little about your current pilots federation ranks which is a factor when filling out these mission templates but you can move to a system where you have little or no local rep.

You're clueless.

I am getting pretty much ALL of the mission types I want at my home system.
You completely missed my point. Which was that sometimes the mission RNG goes loopy, and generates lots of clones of basically one mission. (After I left the station I screen shoted, I went back to my current 'home' system... and (by chance) saw a very similar problem with one of the factions.)

It not uncommon for the mission board to show lots of one type of mission, and then when you come back some minutes/hours later, it'll show completely different missions for the same faction. Seems to make very little sense, as I assume it's selections used fixed probabilities for every 'dice roll', and so the generated missions are almost completely unpredictable.

The mission system should be 'enhanced' to reduce the chances of large numbers of identical missions, and instead try to offer a selection of different mission types. It wouldn't be very hard to do, and probably wouldn't even make a noticable difference to the server overheads. But it would greatly improve the average player experience.

I have seen what you are describing before, but that was way back in the early 2.0 days where it was very common.

Not seen it in any of the systems I frequent in 2.4 or any of the 3.0 versions. It was system specific back in the day when it would happen, and I would venture a guess that it is that same way now.

Unless you have a real attachment to the system or sector you are finding this in, I would relocate. Didn't sound like a particularly impressive mission board to begin with. ;)
