• you can't enter the ship (and stow the SRV) while you've still cargo on board, so you will need to transfer the cargo to the ship first (crotch menu). That is, provided you got the storage space on your ship...

You can board ship with cargo in the SRV (assuming you have space in the ship's hold) - it gets transferred to the hold automatically.

There is now an option to transfer cargo to the ship. My main problem was trying to get in position to reboard though.

Edit: sorry, misunderstood your mssg. I meant that when I reboard the ship it automatically transfered the cargo.

I am embarrassed to admit that it took me weeks before I realised there was a "board ship" light.

Is there? It may take me weeks to find it too!
My main problem was getting used to the controls.
Why did FD, set forward/backwards to those keys?

You can change the forward/reverse keys to the "normal" "W" and "S" keys in the control options.

I don't need to remember different keys presses for forward and back between ship &SRV!

Mind you, it took me ages to learn that holding "W" accelerated the ship - in BBC Elite, that key was to climb. I hit the station wall a few times!

Yep, I defo need to change the bindings on that. The Q & E keys are just about the worst choice I could think of.

Q and E are by default "Thrust Left" and "Thrust Right" - how did you get them to be forward and backwards?

It was a private in-flight message request, no mention of SRV in the message. I recieved three of them before I accepted.
I'm assuming it's a nudge from FD to get to use an SRV.

I've just taken an in-flight mission to salvage quantity 8 geological samples. Turns out it is a crash site on a planet (not mentioned in mission offer) so I go and fit an SRV. My ship's cargo is still full of limpets, so when I find the sample canisters, I can't transfer them into my ship. Board ship, jettison 8 limpet canisters. Deploy SRV, gather a few canisters, board ship with SRV leaving some canisters outside. Change play mode to private group. Contacts tab now shows 8 more canisters, plus the original 8 (some aboard, some not). Gather 12 in all. Mission transactions panel shows 12/8 mission cargo. An odd bug. Sadly when I complete the mission, it doesn't allow me to keep the "spare" 4 geological samples - all 12 are removed on completing and handing-in the mission. It seems that until I got 8 aboard, I could have kept respawning sets of 8 canisters on the ground. What if I was with a wing-mate who grabbed the surplus in an SRV of his own? I wonder.
