Mission hub

I would lilke to suggest a mission hub for each system, a place where you can list all missions in the system and accept the ones you'd like to do (you would still have to fly to each station to pick things up etc).
This would greatly improve the confusing mess that the current mission listings provide.

It would be a great improvement if you could also sort by mission type and most important of all: destination.

I find that I spend a lot of time going back and forth looking over the missions trying to find missions that have the same destination.

This has been requested before ... but no harm in posting the suggestion in Suggestions again. It would be a great improvement to the current listings method.

The current listing method is cancer.

Even if the idea of a "mission hub" has been previously shot down, just getting the option of sorting by mission type and destination would be a great improvement.

Frontier says they want players to play the way they wish while at the same time saying the game is working as intended. Complaints are justified.

Well, maybe I could have worded that differently - It's just that some of these features, it's as if they are engineered to be as annoying and irritating as possible, so many features of the game having been seemingly abandoned all the while the guys at frontier are busy churning out fancy paint jobs and new content. Grrr

It always felt a bit off how you have very different careers in the game, but the mission board that enables them is a... dice roll, to put it mildly. The scenario of a player only wishing to work with one faction in one system is very real for any players concerned with the BGS, yet if you are in that situation you inevitably have to end up doing it with a very broad multirole outfitted ship, instead of a highly specialized single-role one.

That's not what I said.

"churning out new content instead of devoting resources to implement quality of life/bug fixes on the content we already have" was what I said.

You actually said...

...so, it was what you said, you were quoted almost verbatim ;)

Never mind, my excuse for forgetting what I've said is my age, you can borrow that one if you wish (y)

Well, the OPs point remains : fdev should make grinding more efficient and help people avoid flying spaceships rather than add new content. It's an opinion I guess 🤔

The Navigation Beacon, sometimes Compromised, could be used as a Hub to the system - which it already is to a very small degree in that it gives all the cartographic data for that system with a simple scan. Adding a UI to allow one to accept missions (not items/passengers pertaining to the mission) or view commodities data for the stations in the system. For example,
  • Can't pick up the cargo for a hauling mission at the NB Hub but could accept the mission. Maybe one could turn in any non-cargo/passengers (ie, data courier) but my preference is to have to deliver to the station. I'm fairly certain FD likes the longer time it takes to do that over shortening it to only needing to go to the NB. It's their mantra. 🕐🕓🕖🕙
    • Side request: Remove the limitation of needing at least 1 C1 cargo rack to accept a cargo mission - it's up to me to figure out how to haul any cargo.
  • Commodities obviously shouldn't be able to be purcahsed at a NB Hub. Since I have to travel to a system to get the commodity data now, I envision this would be similar to the GalMap filter for commodities after visiting a system but the UI would be more like a station's Commodities board without the ability to buy/sell.

Hehe... I can almost see players browsing at a CNB for 5 minutes picking up missions in open :ROFLMAO:

Does give a quite relevant opening, doesn't it? An evildoer patiently, coldly awaiting at the nav beacon for its next prey that is just looking for some honest (or not honest) work.

Though to be fair it feels like after scanning the nav beacon you could have the data downloaded and be able to just mail the relevant mission givers, for the next ~5 minutes. They can already send mail to you.

The issue is the cap on delivery times for missions.

You literally cannot send more than 100 odd missions back to the player before it grinds to a halt, times out and fails to return anything back.

This limit was stress tested in a beta a while back. So the idea that you could return an entire system's mission lists is dead in the water already thanks to that.

The other problem is even if that wasn't a technical limitation, you'd be able to exploit conditions where you don't even have access to a station's mission board normally, or it's riskier to do so e.g due to having a bounty, being hostile, Lockdowns etc.

What I'd rather see is mission boards broken down by type, just like passenger missions are... so separate boards for, say, combat , trade, specialist and crime, as a start point. Then at a single given mission board instead of just 100 random missions, you'd be able to get 100 combat related missions or 100 trade related missions... instead of rocking up to an extraction economy run by a corporate faction in boom with your trade vessel, and getting a board full of assassinations. You could then go down the path of making certain categories available/ unavailable depending on government and state combinations, because right now there isn't enough material difference between boards given those conditions.

Lastly, you could also break down by faction, and return just 20-odd missions of a type, for a specific faction. Board generation times are loosely O^2, so 40 missions takes 4 times as long to deliver back to the client as 20, so by generating just 20 missions of a category for a single faction would dramatically reduce board load times.

This was my last post about this, and it's all still relevant. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/overhaul-of-mission-board-ui-and-mission-lists.456902/

In addition, here's my videos demonstrating the difference in load times between 100 missions and 20-odd missions
