MMORPG.Com

While I know the site can have a bad rep at times it does have a large following.

I just checked for Elite: Dangerous on there and many people still do not realise that it is a MMO of sorts. They just think it is a single player based game.

It has not even been given enough hype/votes to register on their most wanted games list. Star Citizen on the other hand is top, with unreleased games, with a rating of 8.62. Elite has 0.

I hope people can get past the view that this game only needs class players to allow them to go to this site and at least make our voice heard and get the game registered and the word out.

I for one do not want Elite: Dangerous to stay in the realms of Niche or Cult but to be a top/well played game.

So go there post about it, comment, and rate/hype the game. :)

Even on spacesimcentral.com theres not that much about ED.

In their forums we have a few regulars from these forums ticking the ivory. Just compare ED's forums there to SCs.

I suspect the FD marketing will ramp up once ED is near ready.

As backers of a product not yet released it is down to us as a community to get the word out. We are not just gamers/backers here we are investors and have a product to tell the world about.

I would be very disappointed if ED was geared more for an "MMO" environment than SP.

I expect to spend 95% of my time in SP and 5% in MP (MP, not MMO). In games of this genre, my "real" game is the SP one. The MP profile is just for me to go online, have a quick session of whatever, then I go offline and continue doing my thing in the game.

Since it's mentioned that there's the ability to turn OFF the "synchronise" universe function in SP mode, I would probably use it when I play ED.

Maybe i misunderstood you, but Elite is totally geared towards the online game. Sure you can skip all that and play solo, even solo offline, but if you do that then you will not get the same evolving universe.

You could play online and just set groups so that you don't encounter other human players (except if you have a bounty on your head)...?

But whilst i am happy that there is an offline SP mode, i doubt i will ever use it unless servers are down. Horses and courses and all that.:)

not exactly my understanding .
solo offline still has the evolving universe - exept there is only one person 'pushing' events. it is the developer injected elements that are missing.
solo online is in sync with the multi player flavours of the game

Ah drat it.

No, you guys understood me right.

I don't want an evolving universe driven by other players. The only player making a change in my universe is me.

I don't want to go online to play solo.

I will turn off universe sync.

I do not think I will miss the developer injects.

Well, colour me disappointed. My consolation is, I can play "solo offline" which I will do.

Thanks guys for clearing that up for me.

Whilst I'm happy that you guys have an MP mode, I doubt I'll ever use it unless I just wanted to go online and have a look at "the other universe". Or maybe just look and admire other player's ships and decals.

As far as I understand it.

The main part of the game that evolves and changes with player interaction is the Online or MMO game. Which requires people to log in and play in on the same shard together.

The Offline or single player version only changes with your input and the occasional update pushed from FD based on the changes made by them, you do not see changes made by other players. It would be like in Star Citizen and you make your own server and you never see anyone else or have updates from the parent server.

The Offline version does not evolve as the online does, not live anyway.

I did say the "same" evolving universe... He he, was careful not to imply it wont evolve in SP offline mode.

I think FoxTwo you will get what you want, but the focus of the devs is probably more multiplayer focussed. Decisions such as the speed limit of 500ms is due to multiplayer and i do not see that being adapted for those in SP mode.

But its not as if the game wont adapt to your meddlings in your own offline game, it might just take a bit longer i guess?!

It is fine, as long as I am not FORCED to go online to do anything. Like there's a mission I can't complete UNLESS I go online to "the other universe" to find this person/location/item which only exists there and not in my offline, SP universe.

As an example - Evochron Mercenary has offline and MP mode. My "real game" is SP. I go online to chat and have some "social missions". The universe "online" is not "my universe" and I don't complete any important missions online.

I think you'll be ok, the nice thing is that the online experience will be how you want it not a full mmo. :D

Well, we try the best we can, I am using our unofficial FAQ and links to DDF archive topics to tell about ED game play features. But I agree more people are welcome to participate in grassroots, especially when alpha footage will start to roll out.

I have been pointing people to the capital ship video and then to wiki's page... set the scene then go in with details.

Although I think its great that the community is spreading the word...

I would like to see FD working on promotion now... I want Elite to attract new blood!

I've actually met quite some resistance to Elite from people in forums around.
Some just can't get the REAL difference between E: D and all the rest of space "games"

And in the end I think it's for the best.
Elite has always been a game you HAVE to WANT to get in.

It's a way of (virtual)life , like some quasi-troll just can't grasp.

If someone is not convinced after all that has been shown, it works for me.

I'd rather have a chosen group of alike-gamers than numbers and numbers of unsatisfied/delusional/whiny wannahave!

Elitist, maybe... but that's also the point.
Deep space is not for everyone either.

People have to be careful to realise there's a line between spreading word about the game, and trying to bully people into liking it. I've seen people actually say negative things about Star Citizen's ship designs on the Star Citizen forums, in an attempt to make Elite look better. Pretty understandable why that doesn't go down well. Also spamming the same posts over and over to every single Elite thread.

If someone from the Star Citizen forums acted like that in here, I'd get quite annoyed.

Never persuade only inform and direct.

I have followed most of those conversations and I humbly disagree. In CIG forums sometimes there's very strong trollish attitude towards ED for example I have *never* experienced in these forums. I personally wouldn't never engage in discussions with such persons (never feed trolls), but I can understand how some of ED backers lurking around or backing SC too would feel seeing this. Also there's quite amount of disinformation spread around in SC community to make look SC better in comparison to ED, because for new players this could be very important.

I personally mostly answer questions and provide FAQ and other links for people to make their own research on ED easier :) However there's lot of misdirections and misinformations which sometimes makes me wonder how exactly deliberate it is.
