Newcomer / Intro Modded Anaconda Sold by Mistake

I know,I know I screwed up and I've beating myself up over it for the past 12 hours ever since making that mistake last night. I sent in a ticket immediately after realizing that my credits currency shot up by 600% and logged off to avoid interfering with any possible galactic consequences (community goals etc).

I apologize if this thread is unnecessary since a ticket has been issued, to which there is no reply as of yet albeit the "under 72 hours response guarantee."

I just wanted to know if Frontier has done this for players who made similar mistakes before, of course for perhaps only once in their entire Elite career, to which prevents players like myself from committing that same mistake again.

I just love this game after No Man's Lie went viral to which got me winding up about Elite Dangerous and have been playing ever since. Even bought the Thrustmaster X-Hotas and paid extra Amazon fees for it to ship within 3 days just for this game.

All in all, can this be done? I am honestly shackled at the stupid mistake I committed last night and I'm about 50-50 on whether the situation can be salvaged with perhaps a rollback on my account before the mistake.

Also please don't leave any criticizing comments D: I am feeling down enough as it is.

EDIT: Support has gotten back to me last night and they said they were unable to return the ship to me. Disappointing at it is, they have stated that they are preparing something with the next major patch to prevent players from selling their ships by accident. For anyone else who finds this post after they made the same mistake as I did, do not wait for a response since it will be really futile, especially if your ship was heavily modded.

Here is the reply from Support:

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for getting in touch. What you read in the forums is semi-true: we are unable to restore sold ships or modules at all. We don't have the functionality to do it and anything sold is lost permanently. Sorry to disappoint.

The credits you will have received are equal to 90% of the ship's total value and this is standard on all ship sales.

We are implementing some changes after our next big update to ensure that ships cannot be accidentally sold, however I am sorry that I don't have a solution for you at this time.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Regards,

first of all, you are not the first (and probably not the last) one, who has done so. i sold my exploration anaconda after outfitting it (which took a while), directly before i wanted to set out.

customer support will try to help you, but what they can do depends on a lot of circumstances - and main problem in your case will be "modded moduls" - afaik it isn't always possible to bring those back at all.

anyway, i always got a reasonable fast reply of the support team during the week.

I have seen posts here & elsewhere from people who have had ships returned by the wonderful support wing, I have been lucky enough so far not to need that facility but they responded to my problem well within their time limits even though it was a weekend and successfully defeated my stupidity.

Wishing you a speedy return of your ship.

Ok so stupid mistake aside what has this really cost you? You can afford the Anaconda and haven't lost out there to rebuy, you have the knowledge and the Engineer ranks to simply redo your modules. All this has really cost you is the recovery of enough engineer materials etc and the time it takes to find them and go remake modules up to the same level. In fact by doing so you may even end up with stronger modules....

Worst case scenario is 'its not that bad', just get it done and chalk it up to experience

That response from support is dissapointing. They say you get 90% of the value (so you lose 10%), but what they didn't mention was that you also lost 10% on all the modules in your ship. Not to mention any engineer upgrades you have managed.

Yes. I actually halted playing for more than 24 hours in hope that the situation could be salvaged. And just for this devastating response. I was praying all night and day that they could help at least recover the modules back by rollback. I just didn't really know how it is not possible since everything can be checked via servers. They have done it for others before as well. Sadly, it was a public holiday at where I live, so the entire day that I wanted to invest into playing Elite Dangerous was spent waiting for Support's response, and all for naught.

A costly mistake. Too costly in my opinion.

OMG thats terrible! Whatever are you going to do now?! :O I hope you get your ship and money back. Good thinking about asking support to fix your error. They have the logs, so they should be able to restore it for you.

Whenever I see a post like this one, I can't help but think : Why did they put a "sell your current ship" option when you just want to but a ship ?
Why ? I can't see any logical meaning to put a "dangerous" option just to save 10s selling current ship after having bought one.
Devs just have to remove the option from the dialog. This requires quite no coding. No one will cry after this. Easy and fast.

I suspect that option is there for when you only have one ship and want to upgrade to a new one but can't afford to have two ships at once. You can't (as far as I know) sell your only ship, so the option lets you trade in your current ship to afford the new one.

This is one of the things that really needs the addition of a confirmation question screen. Just a "are you sure" is all that's needed - I believe that self-destruct is a press and regret option too and so needs that as well if it hasn't got it already.

Actually it's completely opposite. This is option for people having multiple ships, thinking about selling one of them.
If you want to "upgrade ships in place" the value of old one will be deducted from price of the new one, same way as it happens with modules upgrades.

Also, it's MMO after all, there _must_ be some consequences of your actions (even if due to fat fingers :)

done the same thing with the same ship about six month back and FD said they couldn't replace the ship
but they could replace the amount of credits it was worth

I guess I forgot to mention that my rolls with the modded multi-cannons were very good. So there's that.

That really is a bummer, to say the least.
I am afraid myself to click the wrong button when I switch ships.
Glad to hear that FD is going to build in some kind of fail-safe.

I think of this sort of thing as "A game within the game".

1. If you are careful and read what options are before you press "A" you win the mini-game.
2. If you are sloppy or hasty you just lost the mini-game and you pay the consequences.

Same thing goes when you FSD into a system.
1. If you are careful and throttle down during the jump countdown you come in to the system at full stop and can make the next move. You win the mini-game within the game.
2. If you are sloppy with your technique and/or walk away during a FSD jump you will end up in the corona of a star or surprised by a high-gravity star. You lost the mini-game and your ship is burning up. You pay the heat damage consequences.

A bit lat to the party, but I just wan to say two things.

First - It's a real bummer when it happens. There definitely should be a rebuy option in the shipyard, just like in the outfitting.

Second - If someone in the future finds this. A general MMO rule if you did something irreversible by means available to you and are going to ask support to help you, don't do anything else in game. Simply log out and contact support If the action you want reversed is the last action you did in game, it's easier to get it done. An sometimes your consecutive actions in game even prevent the support from being able to undo the thing in queston.
