Mode switching hell...

I got interdicted whilst in FSS.
I submitted to the interdiction automatically (since I was stationary in FSS), then switched out of FSS mode. However my HUD stayed blue and when I tried to open fire all I got was "module cannot be used in this mode". Now my ship seems wo be stuck in a mode where I can't use weapons, kill warrant scanners or anything other than honk the discovery scanner.

How the hell do I switch back to combat mode?

It's the same button you used to switch to analysis mode.

No it's not. I have bound the same key to enter/exit FSS but found exiting does not truly exit mode b/c I submitted to an interdiction, deployed my HPs but they won't fire.

Apparently, there is another key that needs to be bound but haven't found it yet.

Does something need to be "retracted" so the mode switch can be completed?

This is exactly my issue...
I even re-bound exir fss to another key and tried that, still stuck in scanning mode and unable to use weapons. Cost me the mission as the police killed my target whilst I was trying to get my weapons to work.

this may be the problem i was having that i had to quit to main menu to get out. not a combat situation; i was trying to figure how to work the FSS, and then how to fire probes. i kept using the controller button (i know, xbox one controller on pc so what?) and i wound up with hug turning red but the controller disable entirely except for the button that opens the game menu to get to options, quit to menu or desktop.

the other gripe i have is, that when i log back in game, the hud has gone back to combat mode - it wont remember the mode you were in. if thats a workaround for the bug OP seems to have or my bug or if they are same bug, that makes some sense. but im 10000 ly plus from the bubble, 5000ly from the nearest inhabited system, and in an asp ex with ZERO weapons. i dont NEED a combat mode since i cant do anything in it. it bugs me that i have to remember first thing to do on log in is go into analysis mode and prepare to jump.

another way this control bug hit me was, i kept seeing a prompt top right saying open FSS to analyse using [O] after a honk. if i press any key, the controller no longer controls the ship and the ONLY way to make it work again is quit to main menu and log back in to the game.

Ya no excuse really not to have default binds for the new scanners as they do not interfere with any ship binds.
Fix it please FD. Bind a default WASD and mouse aim to the scanners please.

Spent 15 minutes cursing at my srv for not unloading it's Repeater on a meteorite when i pulled the trigger. I wasn't aware of the mode switch.

i keep having heart stopper moments while speeding up at a star im scooping from because i forgot i change firegroups in analysis mode from the one with the d-scanner to the one with the surface probe launcher.... sudeenly i m heading into the sun and looking at a scope moving around, instead of aiming my ship and slowing it whule honking...

Introducing "Analysis Mode" and "FSS mode" at the same time and having them inside each other didn't seem like the most intuitive thing in the world. It would actually be easier for people to get used to if FSS mode didn't automatically kick you in to Analysis Mode - at least then people would have to see the connection between the two.
