Modified Gauss Cannon

Salvation's is not allowed to brag about purging Thargoids out using his Modified Gauss Cannon.

After the "nerf" the weapon is just a regular Guardian Gauss Cannon with extra ammo with the downside of shorter range for damage drop-off start. Had to replace them back with regular Gauss.

In essence this Modified Gauss needs more shots to deal a decent damage due to jitter/spread and damage drop off, ending up increasing heat and forcing the use of more heatsinks.

To fix this weapon and make them worth the unlock Frontier should:

1. Reduce thermal load by half to compensate the extra shots needed;

2. Reduce burst shot spread and jitter;

3. Increase damage drop-off start to 2000m;

4. Maybe even dial up damage a notch so the weapon would be an actual upgrade from the regular Guardian Gauss Cannon.

Otherwise it would be just another useless feature added to the game where nobody uses it.

Cheers!

I'm all for improvements to underperforming weapons, but...

2. Reduce burst shot spread and jitter;

... the modified Gauss Cannons don't have any Jitter:

What you're experiencing is the same drawback that the Imperial Hammer has: rather than one concentrated shot, the damage is spread across multiple shots, necessitating steadier aim than stock Railguns / Gauss Cannons to take advantage of the full burst.

That being said, the modified Gauss Cannons deal 0.5 MJs less per burst than a comparable single shot from a stock Gauss Cannon (38 vs 38.5 MJs)...

But I wanted a weapon that does Gauss damage with every burst, not like the iHammer!! Riot!!

If Frontier would only balance the Modified Gauss by making it better for exerting the Thargoid heart with a little less heat load, then it would be a good companion for the regular Guardian Gauss... the Modified Gauss would assist better on the heat exertion, keeping the heat under control and a little less effective against the heart sniping itself beacuse of the burst spread as it is right now.

But please, Frontier... do something... anything to make the Modified Gauss useful!

Thanks in advance!

I replaced the standard Guardian Gausses on my Krait with four of these, and lets just say things got a bit toasty during a test fire, when my heat levels immediately rocketed through the roof. Given one of the tenets of Anti-Xeno combat is keeping cool to avoid being targeted, these things are about as useful as a chocolate teapot in hell.

Yeah, this is bananas... not sure if the current Modified Gauss is matching whatever was suggested by AXI but these new "Salvation weapons" are supposed to be an upgrade from the existing Guardian ones.

Right now I'd just cut thermal load by 50%, put damage drop off start to 2000m and increase damage by 25%. Also buff whatever stat that helps heart exertion by 50% compared to the Guardian Gauss Cannon.

Salvation was making a secret weapon, and he rewarded commanders with a modified Gauss (which isn't his secret weapon)

Understandable confusion, but they are two different things.

We don't know what his secret weapon is.

Everything else I agree with really.

He killed a load of Thargoids yeah, but we don't know what with.
Salvation implied he had purged Thargoids from Cornsar system with his new weaponry which he made available to independet CMDRs and claimed he is doing a better job than AEGIS.

At first, the Modified Gauss Cannon, was really good with less heat and infinite damage output and then, after Frontier have "fixed" this Modified Gauss Cannon it is not worth even being mentioned, even less being boasted.

So, yeah... we just need Frontier to actually fix the new weapon instead of nerfing it to the ground.

100%
On mine ,says now it makes -75% DMG (compared to the normal gauss that i have equiped)?!
I apreciate the extra ammo but , had to reroll to the normal ones , else i will just try to kill the goids with my DSS probes , maybe theyll do more dmg.
Please guys balance it, and tune it up a bit, for a actual upgrade , if its not much trouble distance at 1500km at least like the normal ones , take half the ammo and half the shoot spray....much apreciated

Love all

Can you show me the message that implies that?

The message to me, implied he had purged the Thargoids with his new weapon - AND he had ALSO provided commanders that helped him make it, with a modified gauss cannon.

These Modified Gauss shoots 4 projectiles in a single burst... so, all 4 of them acounts for 4x whatever stat shows on outfitting screen related to damage and thermal load.

But again... most likely we won't land all 4 of them... on top of that there's the bigger damage drop according to the distance to target.

At the end this weapon requires more shots, builds up more heat and deals less damage.

Buff it up... please...

The point is Salvation made available to us modified versions of the Guardian-Based Anti-Xeno weaponry... lots of CMDRs helped him to take hold of all the Guardian materials from the AEGIS megaship intercepted by the Thargoids and after that he mentioned being about finishing developments of better Anti-Xeno weapons.

It is not an explicit statement like "built an upgraded version of AEGIS guardian-based anti-xeno stuff" but one can assume it once he is selling us exactly that.

I think the Gauss are not meant to be an upgrade, because Gauss was already the best in class weapon for AX fighting.

The Guardian Plasma and Shard get a huge buff from the mods because they were a turd sandwich beforehand.

Now, i wouldnt have gone about it like this, id have buffed the underperforming weapons directly, but...

Apologies with the necro. I’ve got these modded gauss and was wondering why I had to land so many shots compared to the videos I was watching. Does anyone know if you can sell these back and get the materials and blueprints back to then go and buy the standard cannons?

ANSWER:
No

You don’t get the option to sell them to the Tech Trader. You can sell them in outfitting but you get 0cr and no return of the materials or blueprint you spent to get them. Nvm they are carp anyway.
