Modular ship

Hi all

I'd like to see a ship that we would have to build, not just the guts, but based on features.

The parts would be mission rewards from hand crafted missions, not just your generic mission board fetch/blow up quests.

This would be a great way to incorporate alien technology (not just the FSD or shield booster) into the designs, and players could customise their ships beyond their wildest dreams.

No reputation grinding, but fly interesting missions:
Fly into the deep core of a planet and take out an installation. Got a medium or large ship? Tough cookies.
Go race the local champion in an asteroid field!

Ask the player base what missions they'd like to fly.
We will craft the missions for you!

I heard that something like this could be coming in season 11. :D
 
This isnt astroneer
Or no mans sky
Or space engineer
Or satisfactory
Or Empyrion

The game is not voxel based and customization on the level you want would require an overhaul of the core engine both for physics and collision detection.

Plus the game revolves around factory assembled ships. That are built to a standard flight model just like the common car.

And frontier wont give us this customization
They dont want people running around with capital ships.

Also if you want alien tech, go to the guardian ruins and collect the tech to unlock it.

Although i would love some more engaging missions that is tailored (handcrafted) for specific stuff, but this does not appears to fit with the visions FDev have for this game, and one reason for this is that creating such missions, takes alot of time and effort. Remember the 100 million Ram Tah mission fun times and unexpected features? And that was not supposed to be a very complex mission at all... and then some clever players found the ruin way to fast, and then we had some coding error, that gave us to much progress in the mission etc, etc.



No grind, this is probably never going to happen, as we players would burn through these missions WAY faster than FDev can create them, so soon FDev must start to use copy/paste of previous missions to speed things up, and there you have it, same mission, new system, sure the story would change, but the game play would still be the same, go somewhere, do something, go back for reward... and more complex missions, have just more checkpoints before completion...


I fail to understand what this new ship building would bring to the table. Since in the end, you would be choosing modules and then fit them, and then we would have all these complex rules to avoid creating Super Duper overpowered "Vultures" for combat scenarios. etc. Add alien tech, we already to today. so that would be nothing new. Instead of having prefered goto ships, like FDL, Vulture, AspX, etc, for specific tasks, we would now have specific "templates" for these modular ships instead. the outcome would be the same.


Also, community created missions etc, could work, but highly unlikely as most stuff would be lacking in depth and if the suggestions on this forums are anything to go by, many players underestimate the effort or the ramifications certain suggestions, and many times appears to believe that "any" negative part of their suggestion can easily be fixed by doing some magic wave with their hands or something. I too fail to grasp the ramification of my own suggestions, and I do try to think about these things... making good suggestions is VERY hard.

Already done the grind, before it got nerfed.
Log in - shoot pylons, kill drones, scan ball, log off - repeat!
Doing it once or twice is interesting because it's new. Then it's just rinse and repeat ad nauseum.
