Module Can't Be Used in This Cockpit Mode??

And so it begins....

Analysis Mode - you are in Combat Mode. or the opposite :)

Surely deploying hardpoints should mean you are in "combat mode" and retracting hardpoints should mean you are in "analysis mode" or is that too simple? Is it actually necessary to have another stage before being able to fire weapons?

One can only wonder how many players got caught out by this after the update, had their ships gank'd by NPCs and ended up losing them?

Depending on your HOTAS, try either a modifier button for second level keybinds (as in: hold one button while pressing another).
If your HOTAS has a mode switch, you can use the software that came with it to define custom keybinds for those modes and then assign those in ED.
I use the G940 HOTAS with a mode switch and must have mapped at least 60 things in ED via this method.

While I appreciate the suggestion, this all could have been easily avoided if someone at FDEV simply gave us a cockpit menu option...

I've never had to use any button modifiers. Now I have to because FDEV didn't remember to give us a menu option?

Thoughtless...

Ok, thank you all. I understand now. I bound a key to toggle the mode on/off. Then I had to go back to controls to bind the specific controls once in the analysis mode in order to make the target splat shots on the surface work. Eventually covered 100% of the surface and got my reward. This seems infinitely more fiddly and time consuming that say just SC'ing around, pointing the nose at an object, and scanning it or getting close enough to it that the Detailed Surface Scanner kicked in. Ho hum. #progress.

Before I could scan systems relatively quickly. This - toggle modes.... pepper the surface with five or six cannon splat shots, etc. is going to slow down exploring massively.

I don't find the appropriate binding under CONTROLS panel. Where is it?

Same here....where the EXACT hell is this setting? This is a very BASIC and IMPORTANT function of the game and the only heads up on it was...well...zero. This is a fail. Oh...and the forum's "random questions" are a pretty good indication of the mindset of the company. How about some questions that can be answered without having to Google and Wikipedia for 10 minutes?

I had a small window of opportunity during the beta but was completely baffled by this so I gave up and got on with the rest of my life...

I assumed it would be sorted when live but it seems not. I have no idea how to ‘bind a key’ and have no intention of doing so. If it doesn’t work out of the box then I have neither the time nor the inclination to faff around trying to work it out. Which means that I won’t be playing the game for now or the foreseeable future. I assume there are many more like me around...,

When one starts the game, one is either in "Combat Mode" indicated by the on screen slightly curved brackets being orange in color, or in "Analysis Mode" indicated by the on screen straight brackets being blue in color.

Personally unless I'm going to be involved in combat, I'm always in Analysis Mode, always. The hotas has a default binding to switch when ever one wants too, and it can be reconfigured to something other. I use the default which is "Y" and hatswitch up, if and when I'm going to be involved in any pew pew. After I get to the instance thus giving the Analysis Mode an opertunity to do it's job first, prior to engaging in pew pew, not before.

FYI regarding the FSS.

If using a HOTAS you can leave throttle at 100% but set the ''Set Throttle 0%'' and ''Open FSS'' / ''Leave FSS'' on the same key binding. Hit that key and you will zero down & FSS will immediately open, leave FSS & you will be at full throttle.

Happy flying o7

I have been wondering why my Discovery button is not working and now I know.

I have to bind another key.

Question: So I switch to this 'other' mode; would that be like going to the system or Galaxy map and therefore, unable to see any potential dangers; heading my way?

Under mode switches in your controls there is a "switch hud mode" option. Just bind and switch between combat and analysis mode as required.

For those who are still confused the "Switch hud mode" is actually under "mode switches" and sub menu "Headlook" in the options.
