Engineers Module Exceeds Maximum Mass ..... Dirty Drive 5 Thruster Upgrade

Now resolved

Hi there Jacob.

Sincere apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

What's actually happened here isn't related to your upgrade (well, not anymore - once you got rid of the upgraded thrusters, that would have killed the issue with mass). This is a known bug whereby planetary bases will sometimes behave as though you are actually docked on the planet's surface and require you to spool up your systems by activating and holding upward thrusters for 5 - 10 seconds.

This will bring you back online.

We have a fix for this that will be deployed in 2.2 and apologise for any inconvenience caused in the meantime!

I upgraded my Clipper's Thrusters to Dirty 5. Now they will not activate (turn on) Looking in Outfitting the Module says it exceeds maximum mass.

I'm I stuffed? with this being a bad roll..

Any Advice please, stuck at the moment in Maia.

All sorted.

Maybe you can try to make the ship lighter. I think the upgrade changed your optimal/minimun/maximum mass too much

Aye. That or switching to clean drives. And yes, the Engineers just modify one piece of equipment, without caring for the rest. It's also possible to modify your shields and then find out that they don't start any more as your ship is too heavy for what you got.

Looks like I will have to remove the mod then move to clean drives, more material collecting. Shame after collecting the Mats for the Drive upgrade in the first place. Nothing I want to throw overboard as that is all upgraded too.

Thanks for the replies though.

If you can't even move, this wasn't a good modification to start with for your heavy Clipper (the optimal multiplier doesn't do much if you aren't light enough).

I guess this is a good mod. It would be sad to discard it. And it would also fit on a Python, FAS, Orca ...
Maybe drop some cargo racks is enough.

cargo racks weigh nothing.

@op how did you manage to get your clipper to 1800 t, if it is correct what i read in the stats?

that reads like a bug.

Well it has just got worse. No matter what drive I put in they are all now Exceeding Mass. Removed the mod.

It did work I got all the way out here!! So it is Ticket time.

He has a laden mass of 813t and a macimum capacity on the thrusters of 1883t. So i don't really understand how this can happen. Should be worth a ticket anyways because i don't believe that you got your clipper over the max mass of these thrusters.

Beside this, the upgrade doesn't change maximum mass of thrusters, only the optimal mass and optimal multiplier

OP, what other upgrades have you done? You've done every core internal you can. And you need a lot of deployed power.

The rest of your specs would help in figuring out whats going on.

The percentage change listed for the optimal mass applies equally to the minimal and maximal mass figures. Original maximal mass of 2160T modified by -12.8% is 1883T.

Nonetheless, something wacky is going on, as confirmed by the screenshot claiming the unmodified thrusters won't work. Hopefully OP will be able to get the (pretty decent) mod back.

you are right. which is well below maximum thruster mass. bug.

Try putting the mod back in and quitting the game then loading game ver 1.6 and see if it kicks it in the proverbials? I've actually no idea how 1.6 interprets Engineer mods, so it might be fun to find out :/

Looks like it does actually change maximum mass, so it's one of those effects that are unlisted. [haha]

I double checked EDshipyard and Coriolis.io — Unmodifed Class 6 A-Rated thrusters have a maximum mass of 2160T

Also checked my own Clipper with level 1 Dirty Drives.

Definately a bug as it's practically impossible to make a Clipper exceed maximum engine mass.

Using EDshipshipyard, just for lols I even tried slapping the heaviest possible components (Prismatic shields, B-rated stuff and hull reinforcement packs or cargo racks) and it only slightly goes over 1000T in total mass. :D

One would need some seriously bad rolls on that adds extra weight in order to exceed the maximum mass.

or stuffing it with heavy duty HRP and heavy duty military armour - those increase mass significantly?

I thought of that (and "sturdy" mods), but I haven't done the math on those to see the potential outcome.

My guess is that it would require an impractical gimmick build to exceed that.

i did a rough calculation. it isn't possible. heavy duty arour adds only 40% mass. including armor thats roughly 200 t. 4 heavy duty boosters might add up to another 80. so in the end you would have something like 1200 T ...

it's a bug!

Yep think it is a bug so raised a Ticket for the problem. Removed the mod and stuck in 6D with still no luck. So stuck. Shame lost the upgrade but never mind.

I know that the cargo racks weight nothing. But I once had a similar problem. After reducing the maximal possible cargo by dropping cargo racks, I was fine to use the thrusters.
