Module stats

Anyone know if they are going to update or release the stats on modules for the ships?

I'm looking at upgrading stuff, and I can't tell the difference between a shield generator c4 and a4. Sure there are differences in energy usage, mass, etc, but what benefit am I actually getting by going to the a4? Am I missing something where it shows that an a4 has x hit points or faster recovery or ?

There are other modules as well that I have the same dilemma with as well (fsd, thrusters, sensors, fuel scoops). I don't know if it is worth the extra money to go from a d4 to a b3? At least with the weapons I can see the dps, damage output etc.

Thanks!

A4 is stronger. It's the reason it (beats Rock) uses more energy.

A anything is usually lighter and better unless it's shield cell banks where you use B rating as they provide more charges.

The higher the number and the closer the Letter to 'A' means the better it is.

I do hope FD get statistics worked out on their modules. it would be a welcoming update indeed.

Not true and I challenge you to back it up with actual data.

Actual data that only FD can provide. If you want a comparison test then I suggest you try it yourself. Multiple people have already stated that there is a difference and I have seen a difference myself after upgrading my cobra C class shields to A.

sounds like confirmation bias to me.

Anything and everything I post is in my best judgement, based on my experiences. I have experienced a difference when upgrading my ship's shields and have given what I have perceived to the OP to help with his/her question. Just because you have not seen any difference does not make my answer any less plausible.

Until FD provide statistics on individual ship modules or someone conducts accurate tests the answer to this question will always fall down to personal experiences.

I suggest we also stop this debate as it's going nowhere and is also derailing this thread and I do not want to receive a sanction for breaking forum rules.

Fuel scoops I have played with, and I can tell you for certain that:

* Higher grades and classes scoop fuel considerably faster (so helps avoid overheating too).
* There is a cap on scooping speed (determined by scoop class?).
* Higher rated scoops draw more power.

IIRC my A2 scoop was capped at 75/s, while a C3 capped out at 150/s. The E1 scoop is truly awful.

Re. thrusters and shields, they do give you 'optimal mass' ratings. If your mass is lower then the spec the module outperforms (eg. faster speed) and if its over then it will underperform.

I stuck a lower grade power distributor on my asp today while flying to Founders World to get cheap gear. I couldn't boost at all because the unit didn't hold enough charge to do it.

I agree that the stats provided are definitely insufficient. Part of the reason seems to be that half units are not listed. For example I noted that 2 warrant scanners had the same range (2km) and same scan time but the more expensive one drew more power. According to the stats power usage was the only difference. I fitted the more expensive one and gave it a go. Its scan range was 2.5km v's the 2km of the cheaper unit. So the definitely need to amend that

There's a lot to be said for solid numbers. I'd like to be able to press something which switches the current module information and stats over to a more numerically-focused version, so that everyone is happy.

Some people want the bars and A-B-C style, I prefer numbers. Can't we have both?

I absolutely agree that the stats shown for equipment in the outfitting screens needs to be significantly improved. One of the deciding factors in any upgrade purchase is being able to compare the relative specs of the current vs. the new equipment to see if it justifies the expense (both in credits and in weight and power consumption). E.g., if upgrading to a shield that costs four times as much, my decision would normally be made based upon the degree of benefit I could expect to see: a doubling of shield power and I would probably evaluate it as being worth the credits, but if shield power only goes up by 10% or so I wouldn't see that as a smart use of my credits. The problem is that right now we lack the information needed to even begin to evaluate decisions in that manner.

Yeah, nothing in any of your posts answer the OP's question.

Thank you for everyone's input!! I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something obvious. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the modules will become more fleshed out in the future.

I have another related question, are all the modules the same throughout the galaxy? Does the empire have better/different modules than Alliance? Or are some available based on faction? Or are there places where the higher end modules are only available? ie, sol or faction center systems vs fringe systems?

Thanks!
