Can anyone tell me what would be displayed on a 2560 x 1440 monitor compared to a 1920 x 1080.
Would the 2560 x 1440 monitor display the 1920 x 1080 in the centre with extra view around it or would the 1920 x 1080 image be scaled up to produce the same image at higher resolution?
But if you select 1920x1080 in your OS as your output resolution and you hook it up to your 2560x1440 monitor the whole monitor will be filled. This would result in a somewhat fuzzier image.
Its the 3.6M pixels that you have available in hardware that need to display about 2.0M pixels so some blending will occur.
Good addition, Voyager. I realised only now that the OP's question was not entirely clear on which case he meant. I thought it was simply about whether bigger resolution would result in a wider field of view (which it doesn't, usually).
The biggest problem I find with these higher resolution is this - for me to be able to really experience the full effect - I would need not only to upgrade my graphics card - but my eye balls as well
What I'm after is increasing the field of view rather than the detail of the view. Looks like to do this I need to increase the width only since it appears from the way multiple monitors are used the height is the base factor.
Trying to decide the best monitor setup is proving difficult. I think my ideal would be a 16:9 in the centre with a 4:3 on either side but this doesn't seem possible. So now I'm left with either a 21:9 or three 16:9 in surround.
