Your Feature Request / Idea
It would be a lot easier if terrain limitations were not so restrictive. It's fine and understandable that there is limited space within the map, but even areas that seem visually like they would easily fit a given building, the game says NO because of "terrain constraints" "obstructed" etc... Also you often end up having to do repetitive flatten terrain dance where you try to find a level that lines up with adjacent plateaus and which has enough space to fit the building. Since the level of the plateau depends on where you start clicking you often end up having to paint over it several times before you get it right...
All this is especially annoying on Isla Pena where everything is tightly packed and you're often left with spaces that look like they could fit something but cannot, so there's a lot of unecessary wasted space.
I would suggest the following terrain/placement changes:
This would make placing buildings and adjusting terrain a lot more fun and flexible.

I would suggest the following terrain/placement changes:
- auto-flatten & smooth terrain around a building so you don't have to do the painting dance just to be able to place something
- auto-remove any trees or water that are in the way (lots of things automatically disappear when you place things that override it, why not this?)
- make building space requirements more generous so that if it looks like it should fit, it fits.
- if an area absolutely cannot be flattened because of existing inclines then put the building on a raised foundation like stilts or concrete blocks or something (ie what everyone building on non-flat terrain does IRL)
This would make placing buildings and adjusting terrain a lot more fun and flexible.
